Haha idk, I haven't looked into the cartridge oil filters. The anti-drainback valve is in the adapter or oil passages, and I'm not sure if metal end caps are an option. Those are plastic, and the paper style is the only other I've seen. Still, I've seen the plastic ones fall apart before. Edit: I have seen metal over plastic caps, for whatever reason.
I've run the Wix filter (51040) on my 00 GPGT since I dropped in the used motor that had 150K~ish miles on it and have had 0 issues. Now sitting at 334K miles and counting. I change it every 3K miles and run regular dino oil. Run the same filter on my 95 Bonneville SE as well with no issues. I run Wix on all my cars except my 03 Vic.
I've run Fram filter before on my SBF motors and had issues with them. I watched my oil pressure gauge drop to 0 multiple times and heard the valvetrain clatter and as soon as I changed the filter to a Wix I never had an issue again. Not sure what happened but I wasn't willing to bet my engine on it. I just don't run Fram oil filters anymore. Just my personal opinion though before this turns into a sh*tstorm lol...
Always used Puralator or Bosch, made by the same company last I checked. Both are good quality and inexpensive, usually included in the deals from advance or AZ. Basically with filters you get what you pay for. A high grade Fram will be just as good as a Wix. Just don't go crazy and put down a bunch on something like a Mobil 1 or k&n which are just selling you their name.
I've always had good luck with the Purolator Pure One...awesome filtration and construction...never had a failure...and I cut my filters open after each oil change.
Use the filter for a 99 gmc jimmy. It is the same in every single way except its just longer and therefor has more filter area. Fits great. I have been running them for 3 years now with no issues. Since its taller it gives you more room to grip it and take it off as well. Brand is up in the air as you can see from previous responses but WIX is my personal favorite. Reasonable price and good quality.
yep I do this ^^ 4wd jimmy filter works great.
I always use Napa gold (#1040)
If you change your oil enough it won't natter what off the shelf filter your using.
A little old but still valid.
