Just looking for some input on this car. He said it was an 03 coupe GTP Nascar edition....

Its an 01 Special Edition GTP

I'm going to drive out with a car trailer and hopefully land it on Saturday. I offered him $600 bucks and its mine as long as the guy doesn't take it on Friday.

Would be a sweet project car.

    2001 GTP

"car ran fine, was parking for a year and now wont start. Starter engages but engine doesn't turn over. Removed starter and the engine still wont turn over by hand."

I'm thinking its seized. No problem I can pick up a JY 3800 and build to suit.
    Thoughts?

Looks good, as long as the interior is decent and it isnt rusted, it's a steal

He sent me a few interior pics. Looked decent to me. New carpet maybe but that's it.

The clearcoat is peeling on the trunk lid and spoiler but whose isn't?
I've never seen a red limited edition?

That's what Im saying! I spent 200 on roof rails and 250 on a SE Spoiler for my white GTP.... for another 150 I could have an entire car..

Exactly plus besides the little clearcoat failure the rest of the paint looks fine based off the pictures. Hope it doesn't have any serious cancer.

I'd spray a bunch of oil in each spark plug hole and let it sit for a day or two, then turn it over by hand. Who know's it might break free, or there is coolant in a cylinder.

    If it's a 2001 it's a special edition, not limited.

$600.... Seriously??? I would jump all over that. Special Editions are getting harder to come by. If they are in good condition, people are trying to hold onto them. Yea, i would just put a little oil in the cylinders and let it sit for a day or 2. My 40th sat for a year and a half and the motor would spin maybe a quarter turn. It killed the battery quite quickly Hopefully it only sat for a year and the gas is still good. my gas was still good but when i got it running, it was below empty so im wondering if that had anything to do with keeping the gas better.

Well it was available. I rented a trailer and drove out the 2 hours to pick it up.

Thing was in ROUGH shape. wheel wells weren't rotten, paint was just chipping off in huge chunks. That was alright i can fix that. Rear towers were golden, fronts were in bad shape. starting to tear through. Trunk lid was rusting and clear coat was peeling off on the entire trunk/spoiler.

Ok not bad, i can deal with the issues so far.

Interior is what made me drive home $600 dollars in hand and leave a special edition...

Floor was soaked wet. pulled up some carpet on both driver and passenger sides. rust was starting to show signs. Not just surface rust either.
Headliner was stained and torn. obviously smoked in as burn holes riddled the two tone leather. Basically i would have needed to swap pieces into the car to be drivable.

I'm still torn. I mean its 2 hours away. I can get the trailer and go get it. It will still be there. My gut told me no so i left. Last time I ignored my gut instinct it ended up costing me an entire floor/t roof replacement on an 87 GN.

but for 600 bucks I mean can i really lose? Its not rotten. Needs money and I fear a money pit on something worth 3500 bucks tops.

    Thoughts guys?

I would buy the car, continue to DD my 02 GP and tear into this one. engine build with cam, headers etc.. it'll add up quick

Let it go. Have to check the floors, just in front of the rear wheels on these too. Both my 97, and 98, are/were completely rotten.

Chances are the car didn't run when it was parked. I will lay bets the intake went sour, filled the crankcase with coolant, and *****ed the bottom end bearings. Backed into its final resting place by a towtruck. Just my thoughts.
From what you described about the interior, its likely that the car was neglected.. and there is nothing worse than a mechanically neglected vehicle, let alone aesthetically neglected. I'm sure there will be many more hidden problems with that one.

I agree on passing, sounds like it's just way too far gone to be worth putting the money into it to make it a nice car again.

I still would have bought it as said before 400 for roof rails and spoiler say 200 for rims and tires 200 for hood 200 for tranny and 200 misc. 250 for scrap you come out on top easy but that's just me
