So the wife and I get woken up at 1am last night saying my son was in an accident. We go to the scene and find out he is fine and that his passenger was only had superficial cuts. Went to see the car today and snapped these pics

The car did its job and kept both boys alive. It was a head on with a driver making a left turn. The other driver was in a rental car that was rented only 6 hours prior to the accident. He fled the scene on foot and the police were looking for him. But I digress. I want to thank all here with the helpful tips and knowledge for the past year or so. I just hope that I have added in helping others also. Just got home from buying a 2003 Chevy Impala for a replacement for him. Hoping the Impala will be as good pf a car as the Grand Prix was

The Impala is a 3.4 so I am hoping that it is as good an engine as the 3.8. It has about 114,000 on itand seems to be running very well. Maybe next weekend I will do maintenance on it (oil change, coolant change, thermostat, spark plugs, wires belt, etc) and see how things are doing.

I think the 3.4 has more problems with gaskets then 3.8s.

Yup 3.4 has intake gasket issues head gasket issues, the infamous 60* V6 piston slap. Swap in a 3800 lol.

That's crazy, good to hear everything is okay, although he might be a little sore. Take care.

Don't feel like you need to leave. Still lots of good information here and it's nearly the same car.

Yeah - what slick said...same LIM issues and add in the head gasket issues. Had this motor in my wife's Montana. It was a fine motor other than the head gaskets that had to be replaced at around 65k. This one might be old enough that the head gaskets were already done. The aftermarket gaskets never had issues - just the OEM.
