I have a 01 grand prix gt 3.8l it has 152,000 and it's not super charged...the problem I am having is the gas gauge is starting to jump...when I start the car it will read 1/4 of a tank, then when I drive it down the road the gauge will say I have a half of tank...what is going on with my car.

    Thank you
    Sammie

Fuel sensor is going out. It's in the gas tank.

the gas tank level sensor is bad. theres a dorman repair part for it. you have to pull the fuel pump out and replace one part on the canister, its like 20 bucks on line for the part.

But with that many miles you might as well just replace the pump while you are in there.

my 2000 3.1 was doing the same thing. I got a sending unit then went on youtube to see how to change it. Since I had to take the pump out to do it and it was probably the original pump I just changed the whole thing. A pump for yours on ebay is $45 with the unit and new float already attached.

I did the little test...turned the key part way and I can hear the pump working, my car doesn't stall or start hard.

the pump comes right up and out via the trunk so to get it out later on again's not the end of the world to replace another part later on.

should the pump die you can change just the pump too. vs the whole canister, thats where they rape your wallet.

id never buy a 45 dollar pump and canister off ebay either. ive found just the pump for 30 and less on ebay, those i would buy.

Dont bother with the pump. Doorman makes a plug and play kit to fix the level sender in a hour.

Itll be his first time so I was allowing him some leeway! I agree with your 15 minutes after you've done it before. It really depends how many beers you have beforehand

If a shop charges you more then 150$ you should tell them to **** off. A running driving car is worth a helluva lot more.
