I have a '99 Grand Prix (surprisingly, it still runs great) and I can't reset the "change oil" light using the normal procedure (pressing the gas pedal three times in 5 sec with the ignition on/engine off; I don't have the driver info center on this car). It worked many times before, but now it would not reset no matter how many times I try it. Also, the door lock timer doesn't work either - the doors lock instantly now. I'm not sure but I suspect the trouble started after I replaced the battery. I know that both features are controlled by BCM. Do I need to reset it? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    heres your owners manual. http://www.pontiac.com/content/dam/p...ers-manual.pdf

read through it, find the programming section for the door locks and such. reset them as you want them to work. the oil reset may just need to reset in programming from the battery change.

Thanks. I went through the manual. I understand about the lockout prevention reprogramming now, but I couldn't find anything on the oil life indicator reset beyond the usual steps. I've replaced several batteries since I got this car in 2000. Never have had this problem though. Someone on another forum has suggested a BCM reset....

dont know how or if you can reset the bcm.

sometimes a bad ground can cause odd things to happen. check the ground cable and the 2 wires with it on the bell housing, and make sure the battery cables are clean and tight.
