So I installed an open cone hai today and ditched the factory air box. After letting my car idle for some time I noticed the filter is sucking in loads of hot air from the fans. Anyone here come up with some invention to make a heat shield or get more cooler air into the intake. I do realize its a hai and I spent $54.28 total.

Most would say that the hotter air doesn't make that much of a difference, and if it really bothers you, make a fender well intake.

Is it on a tube or directly off the TB?

Screw it. I've been running a HAI similar to that for over a year now. Although I do have all the parts for a fender intake now that's going in next week

Does a car need colder air while idling? It won't be so hot when the car is moving. It's not something I'd ever be concerned with.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

You arent moving and the motor is huge heat pump, of course its going to suck in hot air.

Not to be harsh, but if the car is not moving and not bringing in cooler air, how would the heat shield really help. It would just heat soak and you'd be back to square one. Of course this is talking if you arent moving.

While in motion the car will bring in air thats within 10-30º of ambient, if you went WOT you'll see it closer to 5-15º over ambient. Both of which are perfectly fine.

If you are that worried about it, go to home depot and get a piece of pipe flashing and some foam gasket strip and cut it to fit in the corner under the engine brace.

My ocd would get the best of me too, so I just gutted the stock airbox, that way it still picks air up from the front. It also flows a little better with it gutted, in my opinion it does as much as an open cone for my car.

Why are you worried about the cone sucking in hot air? You do realize the nickname for the supercharger on top of our engines is the heaton right?
