While I haven't posted much on here, and my join date is far after when I first started lurking, I'm happy to see such a continued interest in Grand Prixs. I'm 33, and sold Olds and Pontiac when I was in college from 99-03. I remember when we couldn't keep a black GTP in stock. I remember when the 01 Special Editions came out...the 02 40ths...the 03 Limited Editions (or are those S/Es too?). I remember buying tons of used 97-01s at the auction and selling them to younger guys...some got modded in our own Service Department with SLP lowering kits, exhausts etc. I remember how many coupes I sold in 02 when we got word that 03 would not offer a coupe.
My mother bought a 95 SE sedan in dark teal brand new...then a 98 GT sedan in black new...then an 01 in dark forest green that was around until my sister traded it in 2010. I had a Redfire 01 GT Coupe until 2006, when I started working for a Chrysler dealer and sold it because I got a demo. I still love and miss that car...its still alive and kicking with about 150k on it a haf hour from here (had 66k on it when I sold it).
For those that were into cars when these were new, you probably remember how hot these things were. I remember guys on message boards trading LT1 F bodies in for brand new GTPs. Its sad to me that so many of these are now beaten, rotted hulks of what they once were. When I see an adult driven, clean one, it still catches my eye because it was such a great design. Even though I own an 04, the 04-08 style never compared. My customers didn't like them as much. I own an 04 only because my wife liked that style better in 06 when she needed a car.
I've often considered selling my 97 Camaro and buying the cleanest GTP coupe I can find from down south, and doing it up...GTX hood and spoiler, bolt ons, IC, etc. I've always loved Pontiacs, and while its hard for me to pick my favorite, a 97-02 GTP coupe may just be it.
Sorry for the sappy story![]()
