Lately it's been very cold in the mornings. I use a scangauge and let the car idle until the engine reaches 60f. I have a 15 mile rural commute, usually between 45 and 65mph.
I do not turn on the heat until I have 160 under the hood, then I crank the fan full speed and full hot, I get good heat out of it. On my commute, the warmest it gets is 188-191. If the heat is off it will go to 198 and fall to 191 and cycle in that range.
The stat is new last spring and tests good. Does it make sense that the heater core can pull that much heat out of the engine? On long downhills it will fall from 188 to 181 then slowly climb back to near 190.
Thanks
