Took a good while for it warm up this morning, was cruising gently and took maybe 5+ minutes to reach 140, and then it hovered around 160, even though I've got a 180* thermostat. I'm thinking it might be a leaky thermostat o-ring, partially stuck thermostat, etc.

Any other ideas before I tear into it?

sounds like the t stat is stuck open, why not put a 195 back in like it should have.

Definitely sounds stuck open. I'd suggest a stock temp t-stat as well, or maybe a 192° if you like it running a bit cooler. I don't like running 180°'s in the winter myself. I've got to change mine soon.

i dont recall ever telling any one to run a cooler t stat. ever lol if your all stock the engine is tuned to run at the temp it runs at for the best mpg and performance. most gm cars and trucks run at 210 or so. at least every one i ever owned. v8 and v6's.

pretty much what bio said, if the fans dont turn on sooner, why bother, the car will still get up to 210 or more if it feels like it. 180 just opens sooner, then stays open and the temps still rise due to the fans not coming on sooner to cool it down.

no point in running a colder thermostat unless you simply can't keep your car at operating temperatures because you live in texas. it does nothing for performance and just makes you lose gas mileage.

bring it back. when you check it, it should be stuck open. when new in the box and cold, its closed, they will refund or replace it.

Buy the stant Superstat. It will say superstat on the box, much better quality than the "economy" level ones.

Might grab another 180*, honestly. It was perfect, it sat nice at 179 - 185.

Gotta see about what I can do.

I've got that exact t-stat in my car now, no problems. It warms right up to 180 really pretty quick.

Most guys with smaller pulleys and higher boost run a lower temp tstat and program the fans to come on sooner. The idea is to keep the cylinders cooler and avoid knock. When my car was stock i ran a 195 but run a 180 now. I don't drive the car in winter and would probably switch it back if i did.
