You seriously think the sun shining on your PCM is more heat than it gets on a hard drive on a curvy road?
I think you are just a little pissed that everyone is throwing out facts proving that you wasted your money.
BTW, my PCM has been free of the airbox for about 2 years now with ZERO ill effects.
The money, no problem I could buy ten of those CAI's and it wouldn't set me back at all.
I could take a PCM apart and put it back together and send it to you with a custom tune if you requested it so im sure that I know the PCM encounters more heat under driving conditions . Again, apparently the member that asked the question needed an answer so I gave him one that he could understand. By the way my LS hasn't had a box in it since 06'(that's over 7yrs by the way a lil more than 2yrs), still held down by the same zip tie and haven't had a problem yet. So I know, like I said the PCMs are constructed to handle the abuse.
And again, no money wasted. I'm seeing a few more MPG's, and the motor is loving the closer to ambient air in stop n go traffic. I did it more for looks than I did for any power, I was just repeating what the site claimed.
Well the whole kit is over priced for the next to nothing gains. Only good part about it....the nice clean looks
No, the next to nothing gains was the tube itself if they had added it. This CAI is solid and has proven dyno horsepower gains just like the ZZP WizAir or any other CAI out there that claim gains from dyno proof. Yes the price is steep but most CAI that are expensive are bc of their proven power gains and quality. You can buy a $300 K&N CAI but its far from being sealed but still claim to be a COLD air intake with a 15 HP gain. For one this wouldn't be a COLD air intake, but at least this kit is completely sealed from engine heat standing behind its name COLD AIR INDUCTION. The quality of this kit is in its own category and the air flow is crazy, I mean look at the opening of this CAI pure air just rushing in while cold as can be and seal from engine heat. [IMG]Nice filter:8 layer interwoven cotton filter (industry standard is 4-6 layers)
Large radius base with a engineered tube stop gives air flow a smooth
transition and reduces turbulence (this will allow for more accurate MAF
readings which stabilize fuel trims to
increase horsepower and torque)
Specially engineered velocity stack radius from pleat to filter base
which increases air flow and eliminates turbulence (click “Filter
Technology” below to see this engineering in action!)
Filter ability to trap particles down to 5 microns
Aircraft quality clamps
Lifetime oil filter which can be recharged with a CAI Inc. recharge kit. CAI box like no other:
Intake tubes have Ceramic Coating inside and out to reduce heat soak. The ceramic
keeps radiant heat from penetrating the ambient intake air.
Made of high quality .08" aluminum, not heat absorbing plastic.
Powder Coat finish to add durability and great looks!
Applied 3/8'' thermal insulation in the box prevents
heat transfer from the engine bay and keeps incoming air cool.
Each Air Intake is TIG welded by hand
Clear viewing window on lid allows for easy filter
inspection, lid removes for fast filter cleaning.
Every intake is designed and engineered specifically for the
vehicle they are sold for, resulting in maximum performance, easy
installs, and a perfect fit. A few reasons why this CAI may be expensive: The only CAI on the market that offers a intake tube ceramic coated inside and out, a Polyetheretherketone filter lid, custom filter, and most importantly their CAI are all custom and made specific to your car while most CAI are universal and not guaranteed to fit perfectly. I mean it is what it is, you pay for what you get. While it may not be the best it damn sure isn't the worst....
Hey not once have I ever denied our stock intake. Our stock intake sits in the most perfect spot as it comes. I loved my stock intake for years on my GS, all I did was gut and drop in a K&N filter as that's all was needed. Again, I did this mainly for the looks and anything extra that was offered by this CAI then so be it. Here's my gutted with K&N intake, I will never give this thing up and will always have it sitting up in the storage over the garage with the other one that I have for future usage if need be.[IMG][/IMG][IMG]
[/IMG] I love the stock intake and I think its actually the best to make power with....
I mean cold air intakes have always been an argument about whether they worked or not. Look at the CAI kits for Mustangs and so on, they can be easily $300-500 or more and most of them aren't even sealed from the engine bay heat(maybe a 1/4 of the filter is shielded but the fact is that if there's an opening for hot air than that's what your motor is sucking in). Yes the most important thing here is air flow which most CAI provide but the cooler the air coming in and maintaining that cooler ambient air opposed to the motor heat than the denser the air would be which will create better flow and more air providing potential horsepower gains. Our L67s love the morning cold air(as all motors do) and we could maintain at least a 1/4 to 1/2 of that through out the day with the right CAI kit. Pick and choose the CAI kit you want and then make it work the way it should if not already. Optimum flow is great, but optimum flow and denser air is what our motors grieve for.......
And a solid aluminum bar to replace your stock fender braces is over priced for the next to nothing gains as well. Not every dollar someone spends on their car goes to enhance performance. Some also go for looks. If they want to buy a CAI aqs this, then why argue that it adds no horsepower, and just say "Sure looks better than that big ugly chunk of black plastic that was there before."
Me personally, I think it looks alot better than what was there before. I have gone myself with the "Home Depot" WAI setup for now, and I think it looks better than stock as well. I bought a black 45 degree "elbow", so there was no need to paint it. And, because I'm cheap, medically retired and unable to work, I am planning on using my free time to build an intake such as the OP's from scratch. If you don't like something that someone posts, then just keep it to yourself, and think of it as one more thing you don't want to do to your car.
Hmmm, I wonder if they make a 3D printer big enough to print these things?![]()

Sarcasm and your own opinion is two different things. Don't go on someone's thread down grading what they posted up just bc you don't agree with it. I mean what if you made a thread that you thought would be beneficial to the forum but then someone comes on your thread and pretty much just ****sss on it. Im just saying.
Trust me man i'm subscribed to this youtube page. I watch his myth vidoes all the time. I'm fully aware of all his experiments.
Wus up Matt, don't dog me out im just the messenger. I only posted the CAI specs for the people that haven't visited their site yet or didn't know what it was. Im not sure how I losted you but im sure that most most companies if not all test their products definitely if there claiming numbers. And again Copy & paste of the specs was just done to give members on here the benefit of the doubt beings though I already provided them with the pictures. If somebody doesn't believe in CAI than continue driving with what you have(which should be stock and not gutted out) since CAI does absolutely nothing. Go to every manufacturer that makes CAI and tell them what you told me or show them the youtube videos. But don't judge me or my post, I only did this for those that's interested in that 2HP and a lil style to their engine bay. At the end of the day everybody on here or anywhere else that's been looking for performance out of their motor has either tried a CAI or thought of it. So don't knock the idea bc there is some truth and factor behind CAI(even if its just flow, this benefit alone is enough to prove that CAI work at least to some extent).
that youtube video is funny, some cars actually make more power by doing a intake.
like my brothers 05 mustang, you can buy a cheap intake and it doesnt throw CEL so people buy that, it doesnt throw a CEL cause it isnt adding any extra air at all... waste of money.
now if you go spend th extra money(alot of money) like my brother did the mustang will throw CEL(05+ mustang computers are very picky) because of the extra air thats its getting BUT you get a tuner with the intake setup.
JLT SERIES 3 INTAKE/SCT TUNER package (2005-09 Mustang GT) [CAI3X3-FMG05] - $599.00 : JLT PERFORMANCE, Home of the JLT TRUE COLD AIR KIT
srt8's I believe make alot more power with cai's
My point was...
You don't need to "cool" your PCM.
And intake placement really doesn't matter that much.
I'd worry more about the exhaust side than anything since that's where the problems lie.
