Now that I've already purchased myself a ratchet shifter for my car, I have the stock shifter out and i'm working on developing it cheaply into a gate style shifter. This will let you row through the gears with the possibility of overshifting and accidentally going into 3, D, or Neutral.

It should be rather simple, and I'll be happy to put a little DIY up here once I'm done if anyone else is interested.

If a DIY isn't what this thread is for..this could have been included in your other thread about it.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

The DIY is going to go into this thread, because the other thread is about putting the new shifter in.

Then get on it instead of putting up a post when you clearly haven't done enough work in the car.

I actually just built a working prototype

Very rough, but it actually works spectacularly, with all the go-gears on tap. Downshifting is simple enough, from third just pull backward and you get 2, and then 1st.

From first, you can slam it forward to grab second, and while still holding forward, if you do a half-pull on the trigger, you get 3rd.

Getting back into drive is as simple as holding down the trigger and plopping it in.

edit: I put some washers and loctite on to help secure the new "detents", and I have to say it works surprisingly well. I'm probably gonna make another with a longer tab to prevent shifting into drive/neutral, but the idea is pretty much the same.

    Myth: confirmed.

edit 2: I may or may not currently regret buying a ratchet shifter.. oh well, you live and learn.

I attempted to make a Mk II detent, but that one failed horribly, so I guess first time's the charm because this one has no issues.

Here it is in each gear position.

Mk III prototype, this one takes advantage of two bolts for stability and the original Mk I prototype was added on top of this one for additional strength. I'm pretty happy with it, thus far, and it still works well.

Haha, no. This was the car's stock shifter, and because I had it laying around now, I figured i'd **** around with it a bit. Came up with this idea, and it actually works way too well.

Thanks, I think it's pretty sweet, and it's such a simple mod. I'm looking at making these for other cars (my friends' cars mostly) if they have similar shifters.
