Im about to do a trans fluid change in my 05 GP GT and AutoZone recommended "Autozone Trans Fluid" But I said I wanted a good brand trans fluid. I bought 8 qts of ATF Castrol Transmax DEX/MERC Engineered to extend transmission life. "For use in many* Ford and GM vehicles" Says on back for GM cars 2005 and earlier. I wanna know if this is pretty good trans fluid and right for my car or should I take them back and get somethings else? I have 117k Miiles on car right now.

    Thanks.

tranny fluid is tranny fluid in my eyes, if your all stock you dont need any special brand fluid. hell walmart brand fluid is fine as well.

im running travelers brand fluid sold by tractor supply, paid 30 bucks for a 2 gallon jug.

Honestly..the cheap AZ stuff is a tad thicker usually and many guys like it better.

Trans holds 13 quarts when dry. You are doing a pan drop..hence 7ish quarts. Just don't go super synthetic and you should be fine
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Trans fluid is like oil, it all has to meet the exact same specs so there really is not a difference brand to brand.

I added Lubegard 60902 Automatic Transmission Fluid Protection to the last trans fluid pan drain. I used one quart Lubegard (it is made to be mixed not used as substitute) and the rest whatever trans fluid the garage normally uses. The transmission is supper smooth and no temperature issues so far (I check the fluid regularly and so far looks like day it went in). The Lubegard is not available in Canada (that I could find) so I had to have it shipped, but even with the extra cost, it still seems worth it (peace of mind alone).
