When I did my fender last night I just took some turtle wax polishing compund and put it on with a random orbital buffer. Got the paint to the point where it went from being dull to being shiny but still had swirls so I took some Blackfire polish for pulling out 2000 grit sanding marks and other stuff and threw it on a powercone connected to a drill and went at it until there were almost no swirls left.

If you do use a powercone on a drill then you need to be careful not to burn through the paint because it can happen.
