some 2008 gxp help

I have a 2008 gp gxp. ive had it since july 2012 and evr since I got it, sometimes my car will tell me to service the abs system, stability system, and it turns traction control off. the dealer had a guy run a test and he said it was a bad sensor around my pass. side wheel hub. said it was 250 dollars to replace. also it seems like when i hit bumps on my pass. side, it hits a little harder, like the strut is bad. i don't know much about cars, does anyone know if that's what it really is?

If the hub was tested as bad, it's bad. The hub is different than the strut, and the strut would cause bumps to seem to hit harder.

ok. wanted to make sure. also i have to change the rotors and brake pads. any specific brand? i assume i still want slotted rotors?

You don't have to stay with drilled rotors or slotted. Its more for looks.

do the hub when you do the brakes. you need to take the bakes off to change the hub. new hub cost 130 ish new in your hand with a 3 year warranty. its a 1 hr job tops if you never did one before.

only odd ball tool you need is a 34 or 36 mm socket, a 1/2 drive breaker bar and a pipe to get the axle nut off.

Also if its ur first time the nut that you need the 34mm socket and breaker bar for is easier to break loose with the weight if the vehicle sitting on the tire so it don't move.

The bad sensor he's talking about is the wheel speed sensor, which is part of the hub assembly. Basically, this sensor tells the computer how fast that wheel is spinning. When you brake hard and lock up a wheel, this sensor will read 0, indicating that the wheel is locked up and you're skidding. This tells the ABS to kick in.

Replacing hub assemblies is pretty easy, and like scottydogs said - do the brakes/rotors when you do the hub assembly since the hub assembly is what the brake rotor sits on (the piece with the lug bolts that then hold the wheel on...got it?) Not a bad time to do the struts either, since everything is out of the way, but how many miles are on the car? I wouldn't think an '08 would need struts already...but I've been wrong before...

Seems alot of them do now...When I did mine, (not a GXP, but still) I had to take the tire off, and put the spare on the lower it back down to get the axle nut loose. SUCH a PITA.

one trick is to drop a 6 inch extension in the fins of the rotor to keep the axle from turning, or put the spare tire on, most spare tires have the hole in the middle., then lower the car to the ground, then take the bolt off.
