You know why they stock elbow?

Cause someone kept having them ordered, that led to the system automatically putting them on the shelf!

Wonder who kept buying them? lol

FWIW, I don't hate them. I think they are going to have issues in the long run.

    Issues in the long run!

Well, yeah definitely... The metal will outlast the rubber grommet : ) instead of the rubber grommet outlasting the
    plastic! Hahahaha!

    What grommet... it's an o-ring.

Maybe you haven't seen a ton of cars with high mileage and their stock elbows like I have? Or cracked timing covers...I've seen the pictures and knew the cause.

I thought that the issue with the plastic elbows that you buy now was the fact that they didnt make these quite the same as the stock ones?

    AFAIK that is incorrect.

Dorman did have a bad batch and they will replace elbows free if you contact them.

But the o-rings TMK are the same quality (GM may even use Dorman as their supplier, I am unsure).
The majority of issues I've seen were either the bad batch or bad installations. Say not cleaning the LIM/tensioner holes, not lubing them and tearing a ring on the way in. The only other issue I've found is if the elbows are installed and there's odd pressure on them (binding) they will deform.

None of the root causes to those issues are fixed with the aluminum.

Hmm. I know everyone complained about them breaking but I thought that the stock ones never broke. Just the replacement ones. Its good to see they stand behind their stuff like that though.

when we did my 99 four or five years ago the stock ones broke. and every other time i've ever done this.

except the last time. i ordered the metal ones and sure enough i didn't break the plastic ones. i could have reused them.

Has anybody tried tapping the lim and tensioner holes, putting in a fitting, and running stainless hoses instead?

Lol I've had this same idea for some time but just using plain old heater hose instead. I have a bunch of water cooling stuff for a computer and that gave me that idea.
