I just had my intake gaskets, oil sending unit, wheel hub, and all kinds of other crap done on my 97 gtp and now a month later today it just starting making this knocking noise. You can hear it a little at idle but as you accelerate it gets louder. From what ive seen online it doesnt look very good at all. I just turned 18 and theres no way i can afford a new motor let alone another grand for parts so im hoping someone can help me find a cheap solution fast. Thanks for any input.

Also i just had it checked out yesterday (in which it wasnt making this noise) and the autozone code reader said it threw codes P0171, P0336, and P1441 if that helps.

p0171 OBD-II DTC: P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1) system to lean

p0336 P0336 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance you need a crank position sensor, this might be causing the knocking or what caused the knock.

p1441 A P1441 on this model means that the vacuum switch just behind the purge valve is signaling the computer that it see's a vacuum, when the purge valve is not commanded on. The most common causes are a bad purge valve, or a bad switch.

If you can upload a video of the engine running to youtube and link it here.

Never mind i'm not going to run it anymore. I just had it towed home cause it was sounding worse and worse. The guy at autozone said it sounded like a rod in the lower end was out of wack which would be hitting the cylinder wall which would make the engine junk. He also said some thing about a bearing but im not that tech savy yet so im not sure what all this stuff is. Where's the balancer located at?

Unless you shattered a piston a rod cannot hit the cylinder wall. Most likely you spun a rod bearing. Which in laymens terms means you need to look for a low mileage long block from a junkyard or the like. Can be had for around $300-$500 depending on where you look.

The balancer is located on the passenger side of the car where all the pullies are located. Look down at the very bottom of the motor and you will see what is in the pic above.

I would still post a short vid of it running so we can hear it. If it's junk then a 20 sec vid isn't going to hurt it further. Or if you prefer, take a look at YouTube and type in "3800 rod knock" and watch/listen to a few of those vids to see if it matches what you are experiencing.
