My wiper will chatter both on up and down stroke. It wipes very smoothly if there is no water or very litter water on the windshield. It will chatter when there is a lot of water (This is very confusing to me). I have tried everything I can think of but none of them totally solved problem. Here is a list of things I have tried:
1. New wiper blade. I have tried RainX latitube, Michelin stealth, AC Delco, Motorcraft beam type, Trico Exact Fit and Bosch Icon. Bosch icon seems to be the most quiet one but it chatters.
2. Throughly clean windshield. I have tried clay bar, ultra fine steel wool, invisible glass, RainX Xtreme clean. It does help a little but it still chatters.
3. Twist the wiper arm. I have tried that but it does not help. And I can see the rubber on the wiper blade switch back and forth when wiping up and down. Plus it chatters both wiping up and down.
4. Lube the wiper arm linkage. This does not help. It will supposedly increase the pressure of wiper arm if the linkage is rusted. But mine are not rusted and lube it does not help. I try to manually press on the wiper arm when it wipes to give more pressure. It does not help either. So I feel it is not the pressure problem.
5. RainX treatment. This seems to help most till now. After treatment, the wiper will be smooth but when if I wipe 20-30 times, it will start chattering although not as badly. The water still bead up so I guess the rainx has not been completely removed.
I did not change wiper motor. I visually look at the wiper arm when it moves and there is not any play in the nuts or connections. Everything seems to be tight. And the chattering noise exist in all wiping speeds.
So now Bosch icon combined with RainX treatment have give me the least amount of noise but it still chatters. Does any of you have wiper chattering problem and how did you solve it? I just cannot think of anything else I can try. I don't want to change windshield......
