I start my car in the morning and it works great. After driving for a while, if I turn it off, it will not start. It acts as if the shifter is in drive. You get lights, but the starter doesn't engage. Let it cool for 10-15 minutes, then it will start back up. A friend told me it sounds like a starter. Does that sound right? Ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    mram10,

I’m sorry you are experiencing this issue with your vehicle. I would be happy to research my resources for any known issues. If you would like me to do so, please PM me your VIN.

I had a somewhat similiar problem with a 95 grand prix se i had a while ago.
I bought some starter fluid, and it helped.
There could also be dirt or oil, junk around some of the wires under the hood.

You didn't mention how many miles are on the car but start with checking connections for corrosion like dsmuts suggested.
After that it sounds a lot like the issue I had over the summer on the GTP. Randomly would not start, either hot or cold, then it was fine 10-15 minutes later. I picked up a starter from NAPA (lifetime warranty with receipt) and the issue went away.

I am pretty sure it is a heat issue. I can start it and drive and stop a few minutes later and it will start right up. If I drive for a while, I have to let it cool down for it to start. I will replace the starter when I get time and report back.

Mileage? 150k, but new motor and tranny about 10k ago. Don't know if starter was new, but I don't think so.
