Latest example was tonight. Wife starts the car. She is in the store 30 minutes. Comes out and the battery is dead. Fires up with jump cables. Third time this week. It makes a whine noise in the alternator area. Nothing comes up on the info center. Battery is not stock replaced it 4 years ago. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That's what the Pontiac dealership told me it was when it wouldn't start.

I agree with "stealthee", have the alternator tested, as a start. Please keep us posted.

Whine noise in the alternator area is probably low power steering fluid. The reservoir is under the alternator and you'll need a long skinny funnel to fill it. I'd say you probably have a bum battery. Should have dates on it, though.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

The whine noise was the power steering pump. Put some fluid in and the whine stopped.
