Heading to work this morning on wet roads. I stopped for a light and the guy behind me didn't. Pushed me about 6 ft out into the intersection. Only visible damage so far is the rear bumper, i haven't looked underneath yet. Anxious to get it on a lift to look underneath. The area around the plate looks like it was compressed during the impact. The dodge that hit me had oil leaking onto the front bumper and must've pushed something into the fan....cause it sounded terrible after the hit. Pics to follow.
Now i'll at least be looking for a new rear bumper. In trying to save a few bucks I'm pretty sure i can pull the old one off...and install the new one. I'll definitely be searching here for any "how to's" Anything else that i should look at considering the rear impact?
Any input on where to find a new bumper cheaply? I know i can probably find one at a local yard and have it repainted. Would prefer new though.

    Thanks in advance!!

junkyard. for the grand prix. with your g8 you'll probly have to buy one of rockauto or something.. not sure, check to see if your actually bumper was bent.. if you look at my ride thread that was from hitting a pole at around 20mph. if your lucky its just your bumper.

CAr-part.com they list color. Likely if he pushed you that far..there's much more damage than you saw when you looked at it.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Yikes! I hope it happened to the Grand Prix. G8 repairs might be costly.

This sounds like a project. You should do it and along the way make a "how to"!

Yeah, its a $500 fine as well as loss of license. Gotta prove you've paid for any/all damages before license will be reinstated.

Good idea on the "how-to" I'll take plenty of picks. Quickly looked under rear and no obvious damage.

OK, took forever to settle this with my insurance company because OP was uninsured. I swear Progressive is trying to screw me too....but thats another story. Two different body shops including one suggested by Progressive stated that the bumper was not repairable because of the way it was creased around the license plate. According to the adjuster it can be repaired. ?? Either way I am out $500 for my deductible. Progressive likes the repair cause its $500 cheaper.

Did some looking and found a bumper cover for $100 in very good condition and its supposedly a genuine gm part. I'm thinking the new bumper would be better than a repaired one? Body shop guy said repairing mine would be a better option than aftermarket....if it can be repaired (wouldn't know for sure until its disassembled) because the fit/finish on aftermarket wasn't as good.

Any way to tell for sure if the bumper is a genuine GM part?

    Thanks!!

My policy is up with them in 2 weeks and they'll never get another dollar from me. The shops they recommend do shoddy work. Everthing can be repaired...of course. Why pay extra to put the vehicle back into pre-accident condition? They may be cheaper than most....but you get what you pay for.

Only spot that actually looks like it holds the bumper up is that flat area along the trunk. Thats got to be bent. Pulling the bumper back off in a day or two to inspect. My OCD would drive me nuts looking at that gap every time i looked at the rear of the car.

I'm sure there's some small numbers and the letters GM on the inside of the cover, just look for those.

I'd go with a new bumper because if the guy repairing the damaged one doesnt sand out all of the cracks in the paint, you're going to be seeing those again.
