I have a 2002 GP 40th anniversary model. It does NOT have a sunroof. It has an overhead console, but the console does not contain the factory electronic garage door opener option. I want to know if any other GP model, of my vintage, contains the overhead console with the garage door opener installed. I want to find such a used unit and replace my overhead console with the one with the garage door opener. Keep in mind the overhead console for a vehicle with no sunroof, will likely be larger than a vehicle with a sunroof.

None of that era have Homelink that I am aware of. I wanted to do the same as you.. except I did have a sunroof. Here's a Monte one I was planning on using.

Maybe something from another car would work for you? I ended up with a Maxima/Murano mirror that had homelink and compass built in to do homelink. This console didn't fit my needs because the GS I picked up had a DIC as well as this overhead and they didn't match in information.

Thanks for your help. I have discovered exactly what you have said, there is no homelink GDO for my car. I went to the homelink website, they have a list of the cars that have the GDO option, to my surprise, Pontiacs are not listed! Funny you should mention the Monte Carlo. I have one of those also, it too is a 2002, and it has the GDO option and has a sunroof. So, I guess I'll look for the electronics from a donor car, and see if I can adapt and install it in my GP. I also own a 1996 Riviera, it came with the GDO option from the factory. But pre 1998 vehicles use a different GDO code system not compatible with newer garage door opener electronics. Since the '96 thru '99 Rivieras had essentially the same interiors, I bought a GDO panel from a salvage yard for $25 from a '99 Riviera, it was an exact replacement to the '96 panel. Installed very easily, and bingo, my '96 now will open my garage door! Have to figure out something for my GP. If you have any suggestions, let me know. If I figure out a nice neat way to make it happen, I'll post to GP forum. Thanks again!

Well if you are only looking to add homelink, maybe the way I did it on a previous Regal is something that may interest you

Or maybe you want to do a little work and create one yourself. This piece is from a Bonneville, but serves as a idea that something could be done if you have an overhead console already. The one on the right is the original piece. Having owned a Riv..you'll kinda recognize the one on fhe left. I morphed the Riv/Aurora HL into the original piece.

Very nice! I did notice the buttons from the Riviera, although I didn't realize they were really from an Olds Aurora! Something else I noticed, how did you refinish the panel with the Aurora buttons? What you have done is what I'm going to do. I haven't looked at my GP panel closely yet, to be honest, because at first I thought it was a R&R proposition. Now I know it's going to be a custom job. My GP overhead console is much longer, from front to back, than your examples, because my GP doesn't have a sunroof. My GP has a panel in the console where you put the GDO from the garage door maker. You configure the inside of the panel to make it so that once you put the GDO inside and press the panel, the pins inside push the GDO button inside and thereby the garage door opens, OK, but not for me. I want the electronic buttons because these units control more than one garage door! I have a few other projects I'm working on, so the GP GDO change hasn't moved up to the top of the to-do list yet. If you come across and other ideas, I would really appreciate the help and guidance. Thank you very much!

Work seems to have done something to photobucket.

    Go to photobucket.com
    login: BillBoost37
password: Boosted (cap that b or it doesn't work)

Look for an album called Homelink and maybe map light. You should find all the pics that go with the end results you saw. Fog light and heated seat are other albums where similar was done.

    What I did.
Took part of an existing panel that fit my car. Cut out the part from another car that I wanted to make part of mine. Then I took the homelink apart and used the outter area of it and cut my piece for it to fit. When it was reasonably fitting together, I scuffed up the surfaces and used JB weld to fill in the gaps and adhere the two pieces together. Then sanded the side that would be visible, left non seen side ugly. Once you've sanded down from say 180 to 300 to 600ish sand paper you should have a smooth surface in the shape that you've made. Heated seats were probably the most material I added because of the contour of the piece I was working with. I found JB weld to work better than bondo and didn't require any glazing or filling. JB sanded so nicely.

Once that's done. Find your local SEM paint supply dealer. Usually an autobody supply shop. They have a can of SEM called texture. You give it a light spray with that, use a green scrubby to knock down any high spots, then use a SEM can paint called Graphite (for the stuff I did) they also have almost every other interior color we could need. I then lightly misted the switch, panel etc with 4-5 light coats and let them dry each time/coat. Then I went out and wired up battery power for the homelink. Which in most overhead consoles is already avalable for overhead lighting.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
