Hi.Just bought a 2000 pontiac grand prix sedan.
Its parked in my underground garage of my apt building.
Cant drive it yet because of taxes not being paid on it yet.
Will pay those etc in a couple of days or so.
When driving the car from the owners house all was fine. When arriving home the key got stuck in the ignition and i could not get it out.
My brother got it out by pressing on somehting near the ignition,a hole where you can feel around with your fingers, and he pressed something that enables the key to turn then be pulled out.
Something else came out, what looks like some kind of part of a switch, some type of hard plastic small fastener for something. The car started fine, and the key came out fine so no big deal i guess.
Before the key was successfully removed some other things were tried for a "stuck key in the ignition"
One was engaging the shifter while the car was off.My brother would press the shifter button, and shift to the other gears then back up to park, and make sure it was in park solidly, then try to remove the key.He also tried turning the wheel right/left while his foot was on the brake pedal, and try taking the key out.both of those failed. Is it ok to shift gears with the car off like i just mentioned ?
Final part:The car started, and my brother attempted to drive it in the underground. The car has been parked since last wednesday evening. After attempting to drive it in the underground the cars trac off light came on,and the one next to it i think, and the car was hard to move. When it did drive it made skid noises, and would come to a stop, until my brother turned off the ignition, waited aminute, and restarted the car to drive it again.Eventually after repeating this 2 or 3 times he was able to back the car back into the parking spot.Have the tires lost air from being parked for a few days? or is this something to do with shifting gears in a parked turned off car?
Or is it to do with a sensor that may not be working properly because of the small plastic thing that came out near the ignition when the key was able to be removed.
By the way the key was removed without having to go to the hole near the ignition, and is easily removed now.
p.s. those trac lights have never come on before, and the car was driven in the garage a couple days ago,and everything went fine.
Thank you.
