hi I have a '02 grand prix se, I bought it February of '11 and just before I bought it the head gasket blew and coolent leaked into the cat converter. it clogged up my converter and destroyed the EGR valve by the time I figured out the problem, because I had no power at all from dead stops or going up hills and we didn't think to check the cat converter. but it was like that for about 3 to 5 months. and everything cleared up after it got fixed, but now I have a bad crank that's scorn but unsure how bad though. but about 3 weeks ago I was hauling a couch and I turned the A/C on and heard a metal scrapping/grinding noise coming from the front right of the car, and it had made the same noise 2 weeks before. but this time when I shut the A/C off the noise continued for several minutes, but went away and hasn't came back since yet. and also now once again it seems like im losing a lot of power goin up hills, but I don't see much difference in the car when im driving on flat roads. also my coolent is brown sludge but its still has a color of green to it also, im new to working under the good so I don't really know much. but I know enough that the coolent shouldn't look like that, sorry about the long post. I was trying to give as much detail as I could think of at the time. im going to be doing an engine swap sometime soon, so im not too worried about my engine im running right now. im just worried about my transmission and how damaged it is because im going to be using it for the swap, and I also have no clue at all about the A/C

The A/C clutch is probably going bad. I'd just replace the compressor, orifice tube and accumulator, vac out the system and refill.

I don't see why your trans would be bad if the engine has a spun bearing. Not related. Are you seeing increased RPM's when pulling up a hill indicating slippage? How's the trans fluid look/smell? Wipe it on a white towel and note the color. Should be nice and red.

Oh, and don't mix green coolant with the orange dexcool that is stock on these cars. They will do exactly what you see now (sludge). This is also an indication that the coolant is old and needs to be flushed. This could clog up the heater core and radiator causing cooling issues with the new motor.

Time to drop the pan and change the filter/fluid. I personally wouldn't recommend flushing the trans. They're known to fail shortly thereafter. Refill with Dex III or Dex VI, whichever you would like. I think Dex VI is the replacement for Dex III, which was stock fluid back then.

oh and when im goin up hills it the rpm's drop down from just say 3,000 down to 1,500 and when I push down more on the gas pedal it shifts down a gear and the rpm's go flying up. then when I hit the top of the hill where it goes flat, it goes back to normal other than when it ****s back into the right driving gear for that speed the rpm's fly up bout a gran then go normal.
