Yup my detector is the "Blocker" in front of me. I like hauling azz the "Smokey and Bandit" way.
I'm rolling with the Valentine V1. It's 100% worth it. Once in a while it'll beep and show a "J", makes me laugh..
I've got an escort 9500ix, I love it. Saved me many, many times and never let me down.
I have a 10 year old Whistler 1650 Radar/Laser detector. Its old, but with the Text display rather than some junk blinking lights, I love it. It has saved me thousands of dollars in tickets. The fact that it has lasted this long is a testament to how they were built in the late 90's. I have never gotten a ticket when it was plugged in. To be honest I have not gotten a ticket in over 5 years, and previous to that, was once when I had hidden it while at a mall and forgot to put it back up. The cops were at the base of a hill nabbing people. I was only 6mph over the limit but it was enough for them to write me a ticket for $160. The only thing that is going bad with this detector is where the cable plugs into the side is getting loose, so when I go over a bump it will reset. I put up with it because I enjoy this detector so much.
Beltronics 995 best detection I've seen out of any I've used and has the same detection as the escort 9500 without the gps.
Also, Mike really needs one.

I watch my speed a little closer as I get older. I do still drive over the limit, but I try to keep it sensible.
When I still ran a detector I ran a cheap Cobra and it saved my ass plenty of times. On a road trip from PA to the ATL we were in my buddy's VR4 doing 85-90 most of the way and always had plenty of warning to slow down for cops. We watched as people flew by us and get nailed.
On the return trip I was running 100+ on an empty interstate with the only other car 100 yards or so in front of me also running 100+. He must have been running a detector too because everytime I got a blip I saw his brake lights. While Cobra is no V1, it will definitely keep you from getting tickets if you pay enough attention.
I used to have an old Bel 725i. It did the job, but falsed a lot. I found myself tuning it out. I then went for about a year without a detector, but after a few close calls,
I started hunting for a new one. I was on the hunt for an Escort 8500, 9500 or a Valentine. A few months ago I found a slightly used Escort 8500 X50 blue on Craigslist
for $150. I love the features and it has saved me a few times already, so it has payed for itself a few times over.
I would also advise on getting the BlendMount and MirrorTap for a clean install.....
Been running a V1 for years. Wouldn't use anything else. Instantly know the direction and how many radar units you are dealing with. The Mrs. uses a Bel995 and loves it. I have the V1 on a BlendMount, but need to look into the MirrorTap so I can ditch the cord.
i typically speed on the interstate, but i make sure im not the fastest person out there. I ran between dc and philly everyweekend a few years back. I never got pulled and never ran a radar/laser detector.
V1, only thing I'll use. It's sun proof. I've had so many other brands killed by the sun. Nothing will protect you fom instant-on if you're the only car on the road.
I drive the same expressway every weekend, to and back from the girlfriends house 40 miles away. I have been doing it for years and know every nook, cranny, hill and overpass were cop cars have been hiding. I drive like stink but when I come up to one of those known spots I slow down, haven't had a ticket in ages!
Plus my midnight blue Grand Prix is kind of stealth, cops don't go after big heavy looking passenger cars usually, of course they don't know I am packing a supercharged V6 under my hood, lol
^ I'm the same way except about 3 years ago i was on my way back home from the airport at 11:30 at night. I was coming back from Vegas and lost in the thought of getting home after almost 2 weeks. Going around a bypass of the small town where I work I was doing 61 in a 50 and got nailed by instant-on. The guy gave me a lecture about being a "professional" speeder.
