I'm looking to buy a new radar detector but I'm unsure of what I should buy. I use to have a cobra radar detector but trying to look at better brands.

I have a cheap cobra lol But I wouldnt mind a valentine 1
bell rx65, pretty much a rebranded passport 8500 since they share the same internals. great detector, saved my ass plenty times. my bro has the 8500 himself and cant complain either. on a budget i really like my dads bell v995, but compared to the above the range isnt as good.
I stopped using cobra radar defectors because my eyesight was working better than it did Lol.

Yea they are pretty crappy lol Its saved me a handfull of times, so the 0 dolla I paid for it is worth it
Whistler XTR-695SE (not the SE on the end; there are 2 versions).
I did a lot of homework about a year ago before deciding on this model. Yes, the Valentine and Escorts might be a tad bit better, but not better enough to justify the price difference to me. The top end SE series of detectors from Whistler all got rave reviews on their Ka band range tests (sometimes even beating out Val and Escort), and they are LOADED with features. The 690SE, 695SE and Pro 78SE all share the same internals. They only differ by features and type of display screen. I've had mine almost a year now, and also bought one for my sis at the same time, and we've both been very happy with them.
i have a cobra 12 band, works just OKAY. i would way rather have a valentine 1
Spend the $$$ and buy a V1, you will not be disappointed.
I've had mine since 1997, and while it is expensive $399+$50 for the concealed display, ive had it for over 450,000 miles. I've had several other detectors before it, and while others come close in detection range in testing, in the real world, its a more dramatic difference than the test results may show.
For your $$$, you get one free tune up (software upgrade), and i suffered a failure about 7 years in, and Mike Valentine replaced my unit free of charge. I'm certain that if you tried it, you'd definitely like it
I got one of those Cobra Defectors for my B-day and have yet to upgrade to a Val1 or Bellx. It works and it was free, and it is better than nothing, most of the time I see them before it picks them up, but at night our locals like to hide and that is when it saves my ars.
Sneaky piggies... I like to double flash the fogs at them when I see them hiding on the side of the road with all the lights off. Just to let them know... I SEE YOU!!!
I have a cheap cobra, saved my ass twice probably. the one time i got pulled over he didnt have his radar on and therefore didnt know how fast i was going (But i was definitely going over ;P) my friend has an escort i think and its awesome except it talks and is really annoying.
i have a cheap cobra, i the one i use the most is a bell 745sti - had the bell for a very long time and still is better than most.
