Ok i have searched some of the other threads on this topic and none of them fit what my car is doing. The little red security light has blinked since i got the car.. But just the other day the security light on the cluster started flashing. It does it with both keys, i dont have any starting issues like the other threads had mentioned. And i spoke with the previous owner and he said it never did that for him. I have a Tech2 at home and hooked it up and didnt have any security codes but not sure what else i should look at or look for. I have never messed with the security stuff with the tech2. Thanks in advance.

Cluster light: When does it blink? Does it blink with the engine running? This may mean your ignition is starting to go bad. I'd doubt the theft module would be happy with both keys and still flash. I think it would disable fuel. If'n it's the last year of VATS like my 00 Regal, then measure the resistance, find the two wires at the BCM and hook it up with a resistor, then disconnect the line going to the igntion.

Afterall... who is going to try and steal an 00 GM 3800 and not try to disable or bypass the vats? No one.

It blinks constantly. From the time i start the car to the time i shut it off. No driveability or starting issues what so ever. You mean rhe ignition cylinder in the column? Im not sure what the VATS is?! Which two wires at the BCM? And is the BCM under the passenger seat like alot of other cars or is it under the console somewhere?

Ok, then there is a reason it's pissed off about the security, but happy and allowing you fuel. VATS is the version of anti theft that I believe is on your car. There was VATS, then Passkey, Passkey II and Passkey III. VATS used a resistor in the key on a chip. Does your key have a chip in it that you can see?

See how on the key is says PK3, PassKey 3. I'm not as familiar with that system. My understanding is there is something under the rubber that gets "excited" by the igntion an dthat sends the right signal to the theft deterrent. But..oddly your's isn't keeping you from starting the car.

You may need to get it scanned for codes with a good scanner to find out what code it's tossing.

I have a tech 2 at home which is GM's scanner. My dad bought it from a gm dealer that was going out of business. I have no security codes.

Nothing at all huh? Crap. Hmmm ok so what is it that flashes the security light. Maybe a theft deterrent module can flash it's light and still not toss a code. Although I'd think that wouln't be programmed that way.

Do you have the FSM's as well?

Factory Service Manual. You could look up the security, read up on how it works or is supposed to work and all the various things that have the ability to make the light flash. Then in looking at some of the charts and security related issues, possibly find the "when all else fails and the stupid light is pissing you off change X part". I'm thinking it's not truly a security issue, but what it is...that's where I'm unsure.

Hey....have you swapped up keys lately? Maybe the key isn't "programmed" fully or something. Have you tried reprogramming your keys?

Ill get it out and read up. I havent gotten any keys for it. Just the two that came with the car and the previous owner said he never had the light come on.

Edit:I finally got a hold of my buddy that works at s gm dealer. He said there was a TSB on this exact thing. The fix is to replace the theft deteriant module and reprogram it and the keys. So I am sure that will be cheap!!
