So I've been reading about the CAIs people have been building, took apart the stock system and came up w/an easy solution. Get a 6"Spectre filter and about 8" of 3.5" exhaust pipe. Put the exhaust pipe in the stock tube as a sleeve up to the IAT. It as a pretty tight fit but can be done. There should be an inch or so sticking out of the end, just put the factory clamp back on and clamp the new cone filter on the pipe. It seems the only bad thing about the factory setup is the corrugation causing disruption to the airflow, the sleeve should take care of this and give the aftermarket filter something hard to clamp to. I am hoping the stock tube will work as an insulator to the tube reducing temps and the IAT stays in the factory location with no drilling or modification.(It is dark and raining or I would get pics)

a lot of people have done this. i don't exactly like it because the stock corrugated hose is pretty unappealing, but it does work.

Seriously? I mean I've seen a ton of people slap a filter on the end of the stock corrugated hose.......but to insert a piece of exhaust pipe into it first????

    6" filter? pfffft.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

So far I like the setup, I had the pipe laying around so it wasn't that big of a deal to get. Finished removing the air box and installed my junkyard S10 PCM tray. I hope this thread gives people different ideas for aproaching a project. I like that the people on this forum aren't just a bunch of bolt on fanatics but like to think their way thru things.

Just a quick question.....is it possible to plumb the CAI cone down to the bottom of the radiator? I've seen alot of Firebirds and T/A's (Of course the radiators in them are angled so it might be easier to do) and have been told that is where you will find the best cooler, cleaner, sufficient air flow. Now, this is what I've been told so don't crucify me too much for mentioning this LOL. Just wondered and I know everyone has their own opinions. And I'm going to be doing a set up on my 07 but from my research from the posts and threads I've read I have gathered that the best way is the Wiz box for the 04+ GP's. But I'm the type that gets 2nd, 3rd, 4th and maybe even a 5th opinion if I'm still unsure (after all this is my DD)

When you're moving it won't matter.

Under 40 mph you'll lose some power.... But I'm having traction issues there so I don't care.

that was the first intake setup I had, then I bought a 45* elbow, some piping, and made a cheap FWI.

I found some 4" aluminum tube off a 2ton diesel truck with a 22* bend in it, puts the filter right at the fender buuuuut, I'm worried the aluminum might absorb to much heat from the engine bay.
