I hate oil threads. It breeds ridiculous ignorance.

annual oil changes with amsoil 5w30
I am now wondering how big the additive particles are - to the end of "Would a good/efficient filter like Wix/FramXG would filter out the additives you're paying for - clogging the filter faster and leaving the engine with less protection/cleaning/etc. Anyone know? I know 5µm can basically pass through without harassment.
As far as filtration goes, Mobil-1 and K&N are on-par if not ever-so-slightly better than the Purolator Classic. But at $13-15, vs Purolator Classic's $4 price tag... hard to argue with, unless you'd prefer longer changes.
In order of filter performance:
Fram Xtended Guard XG - ~$8, WalMart has them, 10,000 miles on box
Purolator Classic - $4 - Advance Auto (etc) has them... I would totally use this for 4,000 mile changes if I needed them (60% less filter media than XG)... but three of them to get you 10,000 miles is $12, so totally too expensive unless it's necessary or you like oil changes.
Anymore, I wouldn't recommend anything of lower quality, though I guess the Prolator Pure-One could probably do 10,000 miles at $7 with the amount of filter media it has... I don't really know what distance any of them are recommended for except for the Fram XG.

I use the GM oil we have at the dealership. Its basic conventional Mobil 10-30, and a Delco PF47 filter. Discounted cuz I work here its like $15 bux. Easy cheap and works. If I ever get around to building my other engine up I will probably switch to Mobil1, but until then, meh...
I used castrol syntec for years siwthed to mobile one for about 4 or five oil changes it seemed to lose oil somehow went back to syntec no problem, I have also tried vavoline platnium a few times sao no change in performance, also tried penzoil platinum with no change and have just swithed to castrol edge but only have 1,0000 miles on that so basically its syntec or penzoil or vavoline whichever is on sale, was runing FRAM filters up until this last oil change when I saw all the bad hype on them run K&N filters now I am the original owner car has 301,000 miles on it runs good
Well we know that now...lol back in the day (we are talking 70's - 80's ) Fram was good, sigh I got old
royal purple with k&N filter turbo so needs synthetic
Fram orange can just got cheaper in construction.
Time for an update.
JoshV: If you're using Royal Purple oil, why a mediocre K&N filter instead of a nice Royal Purple filter? You clearly don't mind an extra buck or two for an oil change.
Last I checked, even Fram ExtraGuard (Orange) was far better than Delco E-cores. But if you like your car/wallet, you wouldn't settle for less than Fram Xtended Guard.
Could you please be more specific? That is too vague to be helpful.
