flushed moms heater core in her turd Taurus. my arms look like i played with 4 very playful kittens while i was drunk. aka i got torn up. even bled a bit.
have i mentioned how much i hate fords?
this car has the dumbest heater core plumbing known to man. theres a loop in the plumbing, so if the core clogs up there's no direct pressure, the coolant will just bypass the core. how dumb is that?
Ford: Plumbing was job 1
I know how that is scott. I had a girl tell me her car had no heat I looked at it and said I'll get to it when it gets colder out then she traded it off in November.
well this girl was my mother, so i had to get it done. lol she dont drive much any more but when it was 15 deg out she had a Dr.'s appointment and had to go out, she calls me up to say she has "NO" heat!
today was about the nicest day here in 2 weeks now, so today was it. good thing it worked or id be really pissed off. ever see what it takes to get the core out? it sucks for sure. you need to unbolt the whole dash and pull it back, cut a bracket off, then slide the core out.
I'd junk the car first it's just a taurus lol
the truth is its been a good car, other then tires, brakes and regular fluid changes, its had no break downs at all. old lady driven of course.
the only thing it does need soon is the cam synchronizer replaced, its chirping up a storm.
another great ford deal, i can see the meeting now. lets make it electronic ignition, but lets take the old school cam shaft, cut the top off, then put a cam sensor on the top of it!!! then some other dick says, HEY lets also still use it to turn the oil pump too, then we' can use a bushing instead of a bearing, so it wears out and chirps loudly, then throws a code and fails to run.
a few harrumphs later and the ford 3.0 was born. assholes.
Better get that swapped soon or she'll spin a bearing. I've seen it done a few times and the one guy tried to tell me its only been making that noise for a day or so......yeah....right
she dont drive it much so it will wait for warmer weather, i seen a vid how to change it. dont look to bad really. maybe a hr tops. you just need to mark it and drop the new one in the same way the old one came out.
oh the good old days of finding tdc of cyl 1 then dropping the distributor in and making sure the rotor pointed to plug wire # one on the cap. good times lol
It took me about 45 min the first time since i wasnt sure what all needed moved out of the way. You'll be surprised how easy it is.
yeah, its right there just waiting to be worked on. i gave it good look over today. not much in the way at all.
