You can "bandaid" leaks in steal line (crack or chaffing) by taking a piece of rubber hose with I.D. size close to the O.D. size of the steel line, slit the hose length-wise to fit over the line, with the bulk part of the rubber over the leaking section, then take an aftermarket worm screw type clamp of appropriate size and tighten snug over the crack/chaff/rust hole, or you can use heavy duty zip ties too. This will not stop the leak, but slow it down about 90-99 percent.
I did this to some rusty hyd. lines on my old BOLENS G174 bushhogg that went to the 3 point lift, i had about a 6" leaky line and secured it with rubber hose and zip ties, it stopped the leak for years, and was still leak free when I sold it LOL!
