Get a scanner on it, that is the only way to figure out what is wrong here.
Likely it's a code in the ABS system settings everything else off.
I had the Traction Control light & ABS light on last weekend.
Simply removed the connection at the left front wheel, sprayed alittle contact cleaner and Wha La!
Two lights were history.
No more chatter when parking.
very common. like said above the fastest way is to scan for the abs code. That will point you right at it. Otherwise, check for a bad wheel bearing. Then check all of the abs connections for corrosion.
I'm having this issue right now. My ABS & Traction Control lights kicked on today. Help!!!
Pontiac2004...Read the 3rd post.
Removed connection? What connection? Did you have to remove the front tire to get at it? Sorry, I feel like I'm going to ask a few dumb questions....
No need to remove the wheel.
Turn the wheels all the way to the right.
Along the back of the lower left A arm you will see a wire connection going to the wheel bearing hub.
Separate.
Spray.
Reconnect.
Grow fewer gray hairs!
Could also be low fluid, or one of other wheel bearings. But getting codes will move you in right direction. My 98 Buick would turn on and light when I backed out of parking spot at work. But no other places.
Isn't the one plug connection? I'm trying to upload a picture.
Is this what I'm looking for?
By golly I believe it is!
Yeah! Yeah that's it!
Now dig in to it & drive happy!
And for the love of God man, take a wire brush to all that dirty stuff while you're down there!!!
I sprayed some connection cleaner and used a few cotton swabs. The lights are still on. Any suggestions?
Here I am once again.... I replaced my FR brake pads and rotors and the LF Wheel Hub Assembly and both lights were triggered when backing down my driveway. Not sure where I go from here.....
As others have stated, you need to have it scanned to see what the ABS code is. This will help to pin point the problem. It could be any one of any of the 4 ABS sensors in the wheel bearing failing, a bad connection, a broken wire, ABS module, etc... The scan will tell you which one to focus on.
The ABS harness that goes to the Passenger wheel runs all the way from the ABS unit, runs in front of the motor along the radiator support and then out from the cradle to the control arm. It consists of the ridged looming outer, inside that is 2 wires that are inside a smooth black tubing, almost like heat shrink. It doesn't seen to happen that much on the 97-03's, but both my '04 and '08 GP's had the same issue. But just on the passenger side. I always assumed that all these cars did this...
Issue being, that the smooth inner tubing fills up with road silt, a fine grey powder <dried salt?>. It makes that section of harness Rigid, and over time breaks the copper strands inside the wires at the point where the harness has to flex. Right at the edge of the aluminum cradle as it comes out and is ran to the top of the lower control arm.
Working on the '04, I remember thinking that I must have had a bad connector, as the error code was for the right side but the harness tested good continuity with an ohm meter. I disconnected the plug from the hub, and released the clips holding it to the control arm. I gave it a mild tug to see if I could see how far it ran up into the car, and was a bit surprised when the plug and 18" of the 2 wires came off in my hand. The only thing that was holding it together had been the insulation around the broken strands of wire. I guess the conductors were still touching inside the break, until you hit the right bump, or turned the wheel....
So I would check that first. I got a replacement ABS harness on Rock Auto for 10 American Pesos, and spliced it in under the radiator. Fixed until car got totaled 10k later.
What part of "Check for codes" is not being understood. LOL
If the lights are on, get it scanned, and it will pin-point the location of the problem; ie, what wheel is the problem.
If the lights are staying on, it is most likely a bad bearing or bad wiring.
If the lights flash and the ABS pulses, it is most likely bad wiring connection.
