Touch up paint

[1999 Grand Prix] My car is a Dark Forest Green, and I just stoppef by the dealership and I was informed that they discontinued this paint. Ok, no problem. They told me that my best option was to find an aftermarket paint that was close; any suggestions? (Paint code, brand, price range)

get your paint code from the dealer, then take it to a body shop, ask if they can make you or have touch up paint. they have paint left over and sell it, and give you a bottle sometimes with paint work.

then theres the parts stores paint pens and touch up brush/bottles. best to know your paint code first tho. and proper name of the paint.

a 99 could be woodland green. iirc theres another green too.

Any store I've gone to hasn't had it exactly, I bought a color recommended by an O'Reilly's employee after looking at my car and when I put on my car, it was not even close. I like the idea of going to a body shop though to find some that they have left over. Thanks Scotty

now it is worth it for you to have them mix a gallon of paint, no its not. but like i said, some shops bottle up left over paint, or have touch up paint in stock per paint codes for all makes.

thats bullsh-it i got my paint code from the dealership, had the body shop mix it, and they used the code to mix the paint. they painted a fender, front grill and bumper cover on my truck that had 13,000 miles on it, you could not tell it was crashed, or re painted.

any body shop can make your paint code. or they would be out of business pretty quick.

Okay that's what I didn't understand, I didn't know you could make a paint that matched codes exactly add if it were from a dealer

This is the paint I bought for the engine bay of my Stealth.



I went to a local hole in the wall auto paint supply and gave them the code O2C (for World Rally Blue Pearl) and that is what I got.

After painting the bay, this is what I got.



I don't know a single person who has ever bought paint from a dealership.

Pop your trunk or glovebox, find the WA number-



Then you'll know what color to ask for. If you can't find pre-packaged touch up paint that color-

Find a local body shop supply store and walk in. Ask if they can make a small amount for touch up in a brand that might actually match. Quite a bit of variation is to be expected especially if mixed in a small quantity. But their computer should inform them of the smallest recommended mix, for color accuracy. You can either buy and try that, or...

Take a molding, license cover, strut tower bars, or other something small... got a scratched fender or whatever (?)... to a body shop and have that painted and ask for touch up paint when done.

Or just find a Ford or Honda color or something thats close, by eyeball, at the touch-up rack. Its not a very exact science so exact matches are rare.

I suppose I'll show the most extensive damage. It's in much better bodily condition since I got it back to approximate shape, but the paint is what I'm looking at.

I see. That'll buff, ha ha. You're gonna want a little rattle can, huh? Get your WA # and go from there. I doubt you'll happen upon any shops that have some of that color leftover laying around. Maybe a dozen years ago, lol.
