My old Grand Prix (2002 GP GT 178k) has been sitting for 5-6 months after an accident I finally got around to putting a new battery in it a few days ago and it fired right up. Took it for a ride today, loaded some bikes on the bike rack and took it to the park no problem. After riding we went to fire the car up and just a single click, no start, nothing. Lights work, radio runs, windows work just fine so it seem the battery is good. Tried to jump it, let it sit with jumper cables to a Jeep for 20 minutes, same result. Single click. Checked the ignition fuses, no problems there. Starter?

Sounds like a bad ground or loose/corrosion on the battery cables.

dead starter if the click you hear is in the dash. like behind the cluster.

try the old hammer to the starter trick. a few hard shots to the body of it can shock it back to life for a bit.

Ended up being the Neutral safety switch, it fires up in Neutral no problem.

did you change some thing? or you just got it to fire up after moving the shiftier?

on the end of the cable @ the tranny linkage, the clip on the end breaks and the tranny thinks its in gear still cause the lever is not fully in park.
