was wondering if there is a way to match the engine # to a specific VIN # ? ...... situation is I am looking at a engine out of a 07 Buick Lucerne, photos show the odometer at 40,000 and change, the dealer swears this is the actual engine that came out of this car, I am REALLY wanting to believe this, it was an insurance total (car hit hard in the rear). Price on the engine is $650, I just would like to cover my a$$ since it has a 6 month warranty, and if it doesn't match I can return it, but I need a way to verify the authenticity.
it is an "online" deal so there is no way for me to physically see it.
any help on this would be appreciated .

You won't be able to match the engine number to a VIN because that motor was put in thousands of vehicles and all would have the same part number for a motor.

You are just going to have to trust what they say and by the pictures.

I guess I understand that, it just seems there would have to be someway to tie the major components of a vehicle to one another. you always hear about "numbers matching" on cars ? ...... oh well, guess when you have little $$ and deal with junk parts, you have to put your trust somewhere ..... hope the guy likes to sleep with a clear conscience at night.
