Someone posted a link to this guys car on clubgp. When I saw the design on his car I instantly thought of this thread. Just a new idea for you.

Any new developments in the illumination front, I know you were trying some new things, wanted to hear/see how your ideas turned out!

Not sure if a higher intensity inverter would take care of it, a combination of larger wire and higher inverter, or possibly using a different material. Compare this to the picture a few posts earlier. If you were a few feet away, it didn't look bad, but not nearly the brightness as the one using just the white foamboard setup. Possibly using a white glo-wire might help also, just gotta decide what I want to do.

Nah, I kinda backed off it for a little bit, will regroup shortly and see what I can come up with. Looked at LED ropes, but in most cases it's only in bulk. So still still looking. Also may do LED's with etched plexi...

Talked to Colin last night about a trunk lid mat, currently the UPS store is enlarging the emblem, going to try a different approach on this one, has detail to it, but think I can still do it in a felt... Cover will be black, emblem white with a black background, the emblem I'm hoping will come in at around 9.5" high and around 21" wide.

Finishing one up for Cody (Gafford44), hope to have Colin's done late next week.

Well, up at the GF's for the weekend, thought in our off time of not being out, would try and do bbptech's center section. Wanted to try something different, plus doing it this way may help in doing another one I'm doing that has detail to it. So I stopped at the hobby store for some supplies. I cut out the black, then cut out the white, it's all in felt, the white are individual pieces, didn't want to lay the black just over a white piece although would of been alot easier. I'm hoping I can fix a screwup, my trace color bled thru, waiting for the glue to dry - if it's still there going to try and fix with fabric paint or similar.

    Btw - I started with a 6x8 pic... It's now 24"x9.5".

actually a can of scotch guard might go along way to keeping them looking fresh and water repellent.

So Keith, you say you're putting off the backlighting because when you wrap the foam in fabric, the light dims, right? Well if I'm understanding right couldn't you just put something like aluminum tape or whatever on the back of it around the lighting so it projects out more? I've been keeping yours in mind for a while since they'd be a ton lighter than the other ones made out of plywood or whatever. I want to see where you go with the whole backlighting thing...

    Sheepdog,

Thanks for being patient, I'm down to making 3 more mats, another is shipping today then I'll have some free time to experiment, hope to have the other 3 done late next week if all goes to plan (how often does that happen?) was in Radio Shack the other day looking at available LED's etc, along with looking on the net on wiring possibilities. It doesn't look difficult, just never played with them, so look for something in the very near future.

Becoming a little more comfortable with trying to get more detail, granted I won't ever be able to reach the detail of a vinyl decal, but don't think it came out too bad. Still have to build the cover around it, cover opening will hug the letters close, and I didn't just place the black over the silver.

Well, I know you make mats too, and I don't want to be be putting anyone down, but I'm just particular about adding weight. In the same category, I would like to put subs in my car, but I probably never will because I don't want the weight. You do make some really nice stuff though

Was just messin' around, went over to the UPS store to see what type of sizing I'd get. I think it's possible I could still do it in the felt, recessed, just more detail work.

I didn't ask for italized, so that's kinda messed up, but you get the idea... Would need to select a trim color, "GTP" color, and the "Supercharged" lettering color. I "think", using that term loosely I could do it.
