ok 04 GP Front strut mount has bolt with the allen screw in middle, How do you remove that nut??/ I have tried allen wrench inside a Spark plug remover socket but I cant get the nut to turn without turning the allen head bolt?? Do I have to get a special tool or will only a strong air rachet remove it or what??
I assume they are the factory struts ..the struts are off the car for a new strut install and I cant get that dang nut off the strut ..can anyone shed some light on this please???

Mine turned using a hex key in the center then a wrench on the nut. The hex key prevents the rod in the middle from spinning. It might need just a whole lot of pb blaster. But why are you trying to remove it? Shouldn't the new struts have come complete with that?

Take a big pair of vise grips and wrap the jaws in a rag, and clamp it on the shaft really tight. Hold that and turn the nut off, works good if done right or air tools FTW.

^^^ that's what i tried the frist time but it still spun on me with the vise grips. Once i tried the hex key it worked no problem. Just need to put a little muscle into it.

It doesn't sound like it. But I'd still like to know why he needs that nut if he has new struts.

Maybe he didn't buy quick struts.

EDIT: 04's don't even have quick struts available for them so unless he changed LCA's and sway bar set up then he definitely doesn't have quick struts.

    Strut mounts are sold separately.

He'd also need to remove it to get the spring.

If you have access to air tools, just zip the nut off with an impact. It works a whole lot better than trying to dick around with the allen and socket setup.

Does he even have the spring compressed?? LOL of course I did.. and I wasnt using "Quick struts" ..was just swapping old springs on new struts...now if I had a 97-03 GP i would of used quick struts all the way round but since 04-08 only has rear quick struts I didnt go that route.
I had to use a offset box wrench (didnt have one which is why I posted to see if there was a different way to get it loose) to hold nut while using torx bit to loosen shaft..the one thing I didnt realize till after having the first front strut out is much easier to bust the strut mount nut loose when the strut is still in car..lesson learned..

Man your right! they are FINALLY available after all these years Monroe makes a Front Quick strut for the 04-08 GP's!.. and of course they do it after I get mine..LOL
I checked Monroes site about a month ago and they didnt show them then.. I should of waited a little longer.. ha! But Pep boys had a great deal going where I got all 4 Sensa-tracs and 4 mounts for $220 with free shipping...but would of preferred the time saving of the Quick struts as I just got done doing all 4 and man it was very time consuming and a PITA ..
