Thread: ABS\TCS whats next?

Hey everyone, my ABS and TCS Off lights have been on since I bought the car, and I'm trying to get it repaired finally. So far, I've replaced all 4 bearings, and the passenger side front harness. I can now verify that all 4 bearings are reading the same impedance (at a stop), AT the EBTCM connector. I've cleaned all connections on the EBTCM, checked for grounds and voltages on all pins that should have them (per schematic), and everything is fine. I'm beginning to think it is the EBTCM itself...what else could it be?

Do I need to disconnect the battery after replacing wheel bearings\harnesses? I have the battery disconnected right now to clear any codes it might have, then I'll reconnect the battery and let the car sit for about an hour before I drive it.

take it to a shop and have it scanned for abs codes. they will charge you, but this will take 99% of the guessing out out this job.

I think I've hit that point at well, problem is that the nearest dealer is over 60 miles away. I was trying to avoid paying so much, lol.

any good local repair shop will have a scanner for abs and air bags. and charge less then a dealer. so dont go to a dealership lol

Only Tech II scanners read ABS codes, right? I have a local shop with a Genesis scanner, would that work?

abs scanner is just that, a abs scanner, they cost like 6 grand for a good one. this is why they will charge you.

this is also how they would go about fixing the car if you took it in to be fixed. scan it, then fix the code. then rape you with the bill lol

K so looks like I'm going to a dealer, because every shop I have called around here has said "Our code reader does it all" not just an ABS scanner. The 2 shops around me have an MT2500 snap-on and a Genesis scanner. Both have done case learns for me in the past.

if they say it can scan abs do it, they aren't gonna lie to you. still be cheaper then a dealer.

then if it comes back as a dead abs module you can ship it off to be rebuilt for like 100 bucks iirc.

As far as components go, there isn't anything else that would cause this problem, right? Cruise works, my Tach works, my speedo works, everything works fine...except the ABS and traction control, of course.

I only ask because if I can, I'll test whatever else there is before pulling codes. I don't mind the work, I'd rather save money. At the same time, if I'm at the point that pulling the codes will be the only for sure test, then I'll pay for it.

it comes down to the hubs, the wires, or the module went bad. the code will lead you in the right direction.

Okay then, so my multimeter has ruled out all the hubs, and I've check all the wiring I can, so it looks like I'll be getting codes pulled. I think I have found some sites that show you how to take the cover off of the EBTCM and repair the module yourself, so I might give that a shot.

theres a thread here some where that shows how to take it off, rebuilding it yourself...not so sure about that one.

So I just went to have codes pulled and they said no codes were present...

if your abs light is on and off. like it resets when you restart the car, then you need to get it scanned when the light is on, dont turn the car off.

The light is on all the time. I'm thinking I have more wiring issues going on, the BTSI fuse has no power on either side, I've traced it back to the ignition switch and I'm replacing that now.

I've tried, it says no codes, either. I dunno if I should believe that one or not, but the Genisys tool I used at my local shop said it had no codes either, so who knows. The Oreilly's reader could have been right.

the free scanner wont read abs. go to a garage pay them to scan it.
