Trying to get an idea of what the car will look like. As I understand it the car will be raised 1 inch, which should end up with 30" from the center of wheel opening to the ground. The struts are different, I would assume its because of the ride height change. WHat about the spring rate? Is that changed on these springs as well or do they just make the car sit higher? Well either way, looking for some pics and more info. Thanks guys

sag is not an issue. Are there no good spring options for this strut design?

If your after going up with the car then get a set of GXP springs for your 97-03 them will raise the car up. That setup has different springs and bilstein struts.

I'm really not looking to raise the car, just want to stiffen it up a bit. Rides like a grandma car. Our streets suck around here and the car also gets driven all year.

if your streets suck then, lowering is prob not the route you want to go.. it will ride worse then you are now, just slap some new struts on it if your looking for a comfy ride lol

If it bounces too much you probably need to just replace with OEM parts.

If you want to stiffen up the ride a bit without moving the height much one way or the other, you may want to go KYB GR-2 (now called Excel G) for struts (slightly stiffer than stock), and Buick Regal or Olds Intrigue springs (will sit around an inch higher), as they are variable rate all the way around. Also, beefier front and rear sway bars, front and rear strut tower bars and bigger diameter wheels (thus shorter sidewalls on the tires) can help. Aside from that, there's not much you can do to tighten up the handling with stock ride height because the height is a big part of why the handling is soft. But as stealthee said, if your car is still driving on original suspension components, even replacing with stock parts will be a significant improvement in handling feel.

Well the car has about 15k on it so there is no spring sag. THe struts do feel soft. From what I've read the regal grand touring suspension and intrigue gls or whatever is the same as the police package. Guys on wbody forum have mentioned these cars and said these two drove much better than any gtp they have ever driven. WHich is surprising because pontiacs were usually known to have stiffer suspensions. I think I'm going to go with that option. So the car will sit 1 inch higher, big whoop. If there isn't that much of a price jump I'll get the springs and struts. If it exceeds what I want to spend then maybe I'll just go with a set of sensatracs and call it good.

If there's no spring sag present, it's more a matter of good fortune than it is the mileage. While 15k miles is impressive for a car as old as these, don't forget the age plays just as big a roll (if not bigger) as the mileage. That's 10+ years of the weight of the car sitting on the suspension.

In any event, Regal or Intrigue springs should help in the handling a tad. If you're going to get struts, spend a bit extra and get something good that isn't going to need to be replaced in a year or so, eg. Sensatrac/Monroe usually = garbage.

I've seen them used as undercover cars, and "Show off" drug bust cars from forever ago. As far as an actual police package (9C1)for Grand Prixs, I'm almost certain it never existed.

Yes we had the police gtps in black as a matter of fact they were in my hometown i grew up in, Duluth,Ga.. years ago though. Now they all use new Impalas and Chargers for the most part. Back in high school my buddy had a police gtp that he bought at an auction, they did however take the interceptor engine out and put back the stock gtp engine, but it still had all the suspension upgrades and stuff, even the front bar and light on the side. We use to come up on people and they would move out of the way lol it was funny. You could also see the number outlines on the sides and roof( not joking but it was number 69 lol)

This was what it looked like...sorta, it had the bumber guard and other police stuff too
