I put on some mudflaps today and had the wheels off. Took some pics of the suspension. Anything look bad that I should replace?

This is from a 1999 Grand Prix. Does everything look ok?

Not bad, a little rusty, but it happens up there. Take a look at the bottom of the tie-rods, the outter ones tend to wear the boot out and once it busts it can go out quickly. Also if you can get under it, look at the inner and outter boots for the CV Axles, same reason.

Also go into the trunk, pull the carpet back and look at the strut towers, if there was alot of salt buildup from winters those have a tendency to rust up nicely.

Any reason you are worried? Buying it and just a precaution or is there loosness or noise?

BTW bottom picture, your exhaust is not on the hanger, you should fix that.

All looks good, really. The bushings for the LCA's are worn, but mine look exactly the same. The sway bar end links look original, I'd change them if you have any noises while turning, or if you want your car to handle better. That's the cheapest and easiest suspension part to change that will make the biggest handling difference.

In the last pic, your exhaust mount fell off, you can just slip it back on.

Yeah I've read the common problems guide. I just wanted some other eyes on it. I didn't notice anything TOO bad other than maybe replace the brakes and bushings.

Ya most of it looks good, just check on the CV boots and outter tierods because there weren't any good shots of them. Otherwise you should be in good shape unless you want to get the jump on replacement parts.

Also ball joint/tie rod end play doesn't go by looks. If you're at 120k on the original parts, I'd think about replacing them. If at least by 100k, while the tire of on the car but off the ground, pull on the 12, and 6 o'clock positions to check ball joint play, and 3 and 9 o'clock positions for the tie rod end play. Any noticeable play in the joints should be replaced.

No play that I could tell. There wasn't anything wrong while driving, just wanted to see what others thought of the suspension.

Needs cleaned up and rubber-coated so it doesn't rust through.

Otherwise performance upgrades or leave it alone.

3rd pic down you can see it's broke and the bottom is separated.

I don't think there are many original sway bars left out there that don't have this vertical crack.

Can't tell if suspension parts are worn by looking at them, mostly it's by feel and you really usually don't know the difference UNTIL you replace the old suspension with new!

Bottom line is make a little investment... You LCA's and Rear trailing arms have to go. Get KYB quick struts, Dorman sways, energy suspension bushings, moog links, check tie rods, replace as necessary and lastly strut tower braces! Then your ride will tighten drastically over stock, but not radically. Done!

I'm not necessarily going for a performance suspension. Just need it to be not broken that's all.

Ok then, why ask for opinions, just fix what's broken!

No its not, that is a Lower control arm behind it, it may seem cracked/broke there but its not.

Well that's the point, I'm probably just gonna replace them all with OEM parts, except maybe the endlinks. Does anyone make aftermarket control arms?
