    Hi,

I have a GRAND PRIX GT 2004 with 156k miles.

So I have two issues going on:

One is my oil pan gasket is leaking. The low oil light came on about 1000 miles before next scheduled oil change. Needed to add two quarts.
My mechanic looked at it and showed me the pan all rusted and the gasket is leaking oil slowly. He also showed me the manual which details like 10 things that need to be removed. He says its very labor intensive and around 750.00 to do. Sound right? I'm in Brooklyn NY.

    Second thing is:

I was driving home last night and went in to parallel Park, I put the car in reverse and pressed gas, the car kept moving forward, I put it in park pressed gas, the car still moved forward. I noticed the shift moves but no resistance is there. I had to turn off the car and it wouldn't turn back on so I assume the tranny is stuck in drive. My common sense tells me this is not the actual transmission but rather the gear shift. I had to have it towed to my mechanics place and he doesn't open until tomorrow so I'd like to be somewhat informed before the conversation.

THANKS for any help in advance!

The oil pan gasket is a pain to do. So shop prices will vary.

As for the transmission, if you look in the engine bay and behind the throttle body and EGR, straight down next the exhaust crossover there is the Shift linkage. It is very possible that the plastic clip that hold it on there has broke or popped off somehow.

I would look there to start with, it could be something else though.

The oil pan itself is totally rusted out I can see that.

Shift linkage and plastic clip sound like they should not be in the same sentence. I'll look out for that.

    Thanks.

Oil pan isn't $750 worth of aggrevation. Heck..I'm 2 hours and would do it for much less. As for the shifter. There are plastic pieces on both ends fo them to clip on. Likely one popped off or the cable itself broke.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks for all the feedback. It was the shift cable.

As for oil pan thanks again. I'll shop it around to make sure I'm getting a good price.

You know..........I know a guy that was on Regal boards and in Brooklyn, he's a mechanic. Tossed him a text to see if he was interested in it.
