The GP didnt pass Virginia State inspection. The shop stated that both the inner Tie Rods need to be replaced. So I found Mevotech Tie Rod ends from Partsgeek.com but Im also wondering if there might be something else that the mechanic should replace while he's at it? The GP has about 141k miles on it. As far as I know, all suspension is orig. I do know that there is a wheel bearing that is going out (abs light, trac light are on, and sounds like im riding on snow tires), but difficult to know which wheel bearing is the problem. Im old and the hearing isnt as great any more LoL
Any suggestions on a part that the mechanic should replace while he's at the inner tie rod?

For wheel bearings I strongly suggest getting Timken ones from napa and not oreillys for the rest I ususally do oreilly parts and for the inner tierods its damn near as much cost wise to just buy a new rack and pinion that come with the inner tierods on it them might as well do outters too wheel bearings rack and outter tierods would be what I'd do if it were me workong in the car. Hows the lower control arms, strut mounts and assemblies and brakes while your in there????

struts are good. If anything, those may have been replaced at sometime, but not in the last year. I know the brakes have been turned a time or 2 in the past as well. The rotors are smooth, but i can feel a 'lip' on the outter ring, and since i like running the dragon (Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, motorcycle and sport car two lane tourism serving Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner28, Devils Triangle, and Six Gap North Georgia). then the brakes are a must replacement. Just a matter of time on those. I called the mechanic about the LCA, he stated looks *cough* "good-to-him".... so I think That will be another replacement while im at it. but i didnt even think about the control arm, thanks for reminding me

When I took the car to another mechanic for inspection, he stated that it was NOT the inner, but the outter tie rods that were needing to be replaced. The 1st mechanic took a jack under the car, lifted it up 1 wheel at a time so that the front wheel was not touching the ground, and placed a hand at the 12oclock and 6oclock and wiggled back and fourth. Though the 2nd mechanic did the same thing, but he said it was the outter that needed to be replaced.
Anyone with a better idea,, inner or outter??

Look at the bushing of the outer tie rod. If it's trashed then you need a new one.

Thank you. The bushing, other than it being dirty, looks great. Inner it is... Thanks again. Safe travels

you can test tie rod ends with out even jacking the car up, just turn the wheels so you can see the ends, and have a friend crank the steering wheel back and fourth,(slowly like 3 or 4 inches on the wheel each way or less) while you watch the tie rod end joint where it bolts to the spindle, if it moves then the tie rod is shot, after replacing them you should have the front end aligned too.
