Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
news flash, if what you need to use is a 5x120 lug pattern for a f body, it still fits a grand prix's 5 x115 no drilling needed.
i got f body rotors on my regal.
and in the first post dave says to use these.
-2005 Mustang GT500 Rotors (Centric One piece will work well and are CHEAP)Get it on RockAuto Part # 12061089
these also will fit with out drilling a thing.
Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
so the hub bore needs to be opened up a bit, not as bad as the lug studs not fitting and drilling them to fit.

You're wrong on so many levels drilling another bolt patter is more ideal than taking the chance of having the rotor out of balance on the hub. If that's out of whack a lot of bad things will happen
To lecram good info and pics are you currently running this setup??

no.
He already tried the GT500 rotor. But he wouldn't have needed to try it since the 6 piston V calipers
require a larger rotor regardless.
As for your statement about the 5x120mm bolt pattern fitting: That's another
no.
The two reasons why those F-body rotors fit are because the hub diameter is the same as our and their bolt holes are larger. This allows for them to be installed without any issue (they do sit tighter though).
The reason why
dezebe1 will not be able to use F-body rotors is because no F-body came with large enough rotors for his application; they max. out at 12.01" (rears). And the problem with using the newer 5x120mm bolt pattern is that the hub diameter is now smaller.
He will need to take the [newer style] 5x120mm rotors to a machine shop to have the hubs opened up [from 67.4mm/2.65354"]
to 70.612mm/2.78".
Ask me how I know (365mm/14.37" 2009+ CTS-V/2010+ Camaro SS rear rotor):

Thanks Lecram25....looks like your trying the same setup. When I pulled the front rotors from my parts dept. it looks like the 09-13 CTS-V updated front rotor is a 2 piece design with a aluminum hat vs. the original which was a 1 piece...the rear V rotor is just a 1 piece. Having the center machined out to the correct diameter sounds like a sound and logical idesa then just re-drill for the propper bolt pattern.
Thanks for the tip, looks like I can continue on with this project now, very excited 'bout the new info you suggested
Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
What about machining the hubs down to 67mm?
I still would like to do the V upgrade maybe, but not sure if they would clear my rims.
Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
This seems like a dumb question...the cts-v pads need to be greased right? as well as the metal backing plate??
Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
someone please clue me in to why we are all of a sudden talking about the 6-piston calipers?
Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
Because 4 pistons aren't enough on a fwd grocery getter?

Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes

because i got a set of front and rear calipers for $300 from my dealership. They where take-off's cause the customer wanted the yellow colored ones. Vehicle it came off of only had 130 miles on it, thats just from being a salesman's demo before it sold!!! For $300 it was worth it to me

Wanna make $200 right now? Lol
Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
thats a good deal, dont those require at least 19's?
Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
If you can get cts-v calipers 4 pistons for the front at your cost I'd be willing to pay I'd rather go through a member than amazon

this was our only take-off set we have and I'd be willing to bet they go for a bit more than $500 for all 4 LOL!!!
The CTS-V set will be going on my daily driver '01 GTP, and the GXP front and rear that are on there will be going onto the '97 LeMons race car in my sig.
I have 18" on the daily driver and only 17" on the race car....with as much as we go through tires in a season it's too expensive to get 10 rims and tires for the race car in a 18"

You lucky SOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
if i remember right.... my front breaks have two break pistons on them each.. which makes my gxp have 6 pistons total.. hmm.. or maybe i'm just thinking the wrong idea....
Re: The Official what you need and how-to for CTS-V brakes
Yeah they're talking 6 pistons in one caliper lol!
Do you have a members ride page fore your race car? I'd really like to see it

Each front caliper has 2 pistons BUT on a sliding caliper setup. we have no where near the same clamping forced as a fixed caliper which has opposing pistons on each side making them more efficent and powerful. the CTS-v uses 4 (or 6 in this case) pistons to push the pad on the rotor PER WHEEL. and the rear instead of one for us CTS-Vguys have 4 pistons per wheel.
