Hey guys. I have a 2001 Grand Prix GT, but I'm going to be doing a L67 top swap on it fairly soon, along with several other power modifications. Before I do all this, I'm taking preventitive measures to ensure my car is equipped to handle the extra power. I'm just wondering what brake setup you guys would recommend (front and back). Thanks guys.

cheapest, most worthwhile setup is just a normal GM 12" upgrade. thats all i did and the car stopped great. the next best option is f-body brakes.

for the rears, just make sure youve got fresh pads and rotors on them. they really dont help with braking all that much and the only "upgrade" available is to downgrade to grand am brakes that are lighter, but stop worse.

If you got the money you can find a GXP brake setup, but really a 12" front with the F-body calipers is more than enough. The rears are fine. Be sure to get good pads and new fluid to.

Will the Fbody brakes fit behind the stock 16 inch snowflake rims?

Nope, you'll need atleast a 17" rim to clear the caliper

Well u can't fit the stock calipers over 12" rotors. That's why u need the caliper and caliper bracket off of an f-body

the GM 12" caliper bracket with the stock rotor and 11.9" rotors will work fine with any wheel setup.

Where's the best place to get the GM 12" upgraded brake system?

f-body ftw....if your on a budget do the 12" upgrade....especially if you got the wrong wheels....it works well to from what ive heard....i however have always been a fan of the f-bodys they make me feel alot safer when braking....

ill try it with the snow flakes, if not ill switch to these, i have a set of dr's on 2 and th other two are just sitting on the parts car. I'd really like to keep the Snowflakes as they are in better shape and are polished....don't really want to polish those up.

Umm... For what it's worth I have STOCK Calipers with 11.9 - 12 Inch Rotors on 16" Rims. The only ones that you can not do this upgrade with is the Cross laced Wheel pictured above.

To do this all you need is to get ahold of a junk yard and get Oldsmobile Intrigue Caliper Brackets and a Good Set of 11.9 AKA 12" rotors from any parts store. It does make quite a difference.

I got the brackets and 2 rotors from Ed Morad for $55.00 shipped. But you're better off using new rotors and pads.

So that 12" upgrade set-up will work with these wheels?
