    Hey

    2005 pontiac grand prix gtp-comp g

    So i decided to upgrade my deck since i really liked the idea of having bluetooth integrated into my car.

    I bought the kenwood ddx392 and got the aftermarket wiring harness to make it all work. I know nothing about car audio but am very comfortable with home audio so i figured it cant be too hard.

    The install went alright, it took awhile for me to realize that there was way more wires than i actually needed to connect and once i figured that i just needed to match the head wires to the aftermarket harness it was easy. The problem i am having is the secondary harness i bought to make my steering wheel connections work.

    Its a Maestro datalink SW, I spliced the ground and power (Black and Red) but the two other connections make no sense to me because the wires they tell me to splice them to are speaker wires... which i cant think of any reason would make the steering wheel controls work. With this product you have to hook it up to your computer first and flash the firmware for your specific steering wheel... i did that but after that im lost.

    I put it all back together and figured ill deal with it tomorrow, the last thing i noticed was everything on my DIC works except under information where it use to tell me the month/date and day of the week it only shows me "----- ----"

    I never disconnected the DIC so not sure what thats about. Any insight would be great otherwise i guess ill take it back to where i bought it and see if they can help but they said for them to do the install would be $450 so i am a little hesitant.

    Thanks

    The Dic thing happens when you take out your stock head unit. And I have never heard of that brand of harness before so I'm not sure what the issue could be.

    Maestro must have come with instructions and working diagram? No? Also, although wiring (colors) are standardized, it doesn't mean the instructions are correct. You need to know the function of the connections. Did you use a wiring harness adapter or splice into the car harness directly?

    You must log in to get the actual diagram for your car and radio. Meaning..I tried to look into it and there isn't any info availabile w/o logging in. Please post your Maestro wiring directions.

    so i cant link it and when you view this online it comes out all together instead of separate. Beside that last picture it says what their wires correspond too on my wires.

    So from the Top

    Module to my Vehicle
    Purple/Red = Dark blue or Green - A7
    Purple/Yellow = Not used
    Pink/Red = Not used
    Pink/Yellow = Not used
    Black/White = Violet or Pink - A6
    Red = Accessory
    Black = Ground

    And than the last wire is a Blue/Yellow which is suppose to go to a Blue/Yellow on the kenwood.

    So what i did is i attached the Blue/Yellow cause that was the easiest.

    I spliced the Ground and Accessory (Black and Red) to the module and than connected that to the Kenwood.

    The last two im completely confused about because on the kenwood wiring Green is a front left speaker i believe and blue is antenna power accessory and violet is a rear left speaker? so i dont know what that would have to do with the steering wheel controls.

    You will need to hook up to the input from the steering wheel controls. I am unsure of your year, but that wire on older models was green on the car side.

    I tried hooking to the green. Nothing. Also is my hud ever going to display info related to the stereo or is that something only the stock head unit can do

    Unless you bought a stereo that specifically does it..

    You can't just "hook to green", you need the pinout to know which wire is the correct one.

    so i went back to visions today which is where i bought everything and talked to their installer and it took about 2 min to figure out what was wrong.

    I was trying to connect the maestro module for the steering wheel controls to the wires on the aftermarket harness... and the colors and pin # were not lining up so obviously it did not work. He told me that i have to splice into the STOCK wire harness and the colors and pin # should line up

    So when i got back home i pulled it out and sure enough the colors not only lined up to the stock harness but they were labeled as well with row A and B numbered. After i spliced two wires into the stock harness it all worked fine.
