Just posting my "took too long but finally finished it" project. Basically, I removed the factory pop-out cup holders from my 99 GTP and built an iPhone holder/dock in its place. I'm really happy with how it turned out actually. Took a lot of experimenting to get right, but it overall has a very clean look.

When it is closed, it looks completely stock, but it flips open to reveal a channel and a USB connector for the iPhone 4/5. The USB runs from the back of my radio, through the center console, up through the box inside the armrest and through to the base of the new box.

I always have trouble uploading pics here, so there is a link to an album of the console out of the car with my custom box in it below.

Let me know what you think!

Not really. I never really used them, so it was something I was willing to sacrifice. I charge my phone/listen to music much more often than I get fast food or anything, and I absolutely hate having stray wires cluttering my car, so I decided to hide them away and make something cool.

I agree with Bill. What was the total cost of the project?

Well this first time, there was a lot of experimenting so it cost a little more than it would if I tried it again.

    Basswood: ~$20-25
    Felt: $0.30
    Hot glue refill: $3

    Total: $25-$30.

If I did it again, I could almost definitely get that down to $15-$20. I went through a lot more basswood in the beginning than was needed to complete the final box, mainly because I made a prototype that didn't fit. After cutting up and resizing my pieces, I probably scrapped $10-$15 worth of wood.

I agree, nice and clean. I take it there is a charge cable stashed in there? Maybe add a cradle for easy charging and music playing.

Yeah the cable is run through a hole I drilled in the front of the console/armrest. What do you mean by cradle?
