I got a replacement gauge cluster a while back, since the one that came with my car was full of super glue from someone sticking an overlay on.

Is there any reason you cannot just swap the clusters out? Are they in some way tied to the VIN or the security system?

97- 98 then 99-03 should be the same. you can just change them but for legal reasons your supposed to take a sticker with the old clusters miles and the replacement ones miles so a new buy knows the true miles.

or have it programmed to read the same as the old one. ebay has re builders who sell and repair clusters, and can change the miles too. you sign a disclaimer so it legal on his side.

Yeah it's for a 2000 GTP, but it's strange because it doesn't have as many tick marks on the speedo, only the multiples of 5 are marked. Does that mean it's probably off a 97-98?

I can't answer that at the moment but was glad to find this topic because I have the same questions. I want to put the 135K cluster from my 02 GTP in my 202K 99 GTP because the 99 needles are faded and lens is scratched. Will they swap? Did not know a Tech2 might be involved. For what? The 99 car's clear title says "EXEMPT" under odometer reading.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

Well I swapped mine in today, and it seems to work... Although I can't say for sure if there are any problems or not, because I have so many other problems at the moment. The biggest difference I can tell is the lack of 1 MPH tick marks.

i had to get a used rebuilt cluster for my car, someone tried to fix it and well, they f ed up good.

when the guy i sent mine to be repaired sent me the new one he got for a newer year. 1/2 the cluster didnt work. so it went back and he had to find me one from a 98.

some years will be different, like the perf shift light was in a different place on the newer cluster i had that didnt work.
