The basic Pioneer head unit is great. Couple it with a fairly decent amp and speakers, and you'll be loving the sounds.

That said, AppRadio is a crap shoot. You can find discussions on this and almost all of the Pioneer double din head units here.

If your budget is only $500 or so, ebay is your friend. Just remember that if you want steering wheel controls integration, there's an adapter for that. If you want to retain your chimes, there's an adapter for that. If for no other reason, consider the CANBUS adapter because it'll make wiring for power and speakers so much easier. There'd be no hacking into the factory wires and you won't have to worry about your car's body control module freaking out when it can't find the radio.

Also know that you'll lose the clock function of the DIC once you replace the factory radio.
