Hey guys. My girlfriend has an 08 GP. She needed a replacement remote so i got her a pink one with the remote start button on it. I was wondering if anyone knew any plug and play remote starters for the GP that don't need a security system hooked up, or where to get a stock one?

Don't the 05+ have factory remote starters?

The remote that came with the car didn't have the option, are you saying it's installed and just not hooked up?

i'm looking into that to see if the programming can be added to the bcm. I think you would have to program using a vin from a remote start equipped model. Not sure what other complications would arise.

Yeah I don't know. I got her a remote and had it programmed at the dealership because the one that came with the car was trashed and she wanted a pink remote, so I got one with the remote start button. Just tried it though, no go. The lights on the car flash but that's it. Are there any aftermarket alarm systems that don't clash and cause electrical problems like most of the ones out there? Id like to go oem but if not then...

Try pressing the lock button twice then hold the remote start button, see what happens

Are you saying that all 05+ have it installed but it's not activated?

Pretty sure it's going to need some bcm programming. Personally it'll probably be cheaper and easier to just go the aftermarket route after it's all said and done.

Any recommendations on one that won't break the bank but will tie into the system nice and pleasant?

Viper, Clifford, Python all are made by the same company... DEI. The difference is exactly how GM vs Chevy is... Better looking remotes. Check online or eBay you can find many of then for a reasonable price.

maybe the new remote start systems are different. I installed a Clifford system about 7 years ago. the resistor pellet needed for the system to work made the factory immobilzer basically useless. anyone will the proper cut, non-programmed key could start the car. The factory systems don't mess with the factory theft deterrent.

Im an installer at bestbuy.. head over to your local bestbuy and have them price you out a remote starter. They have one is a 1 button remote starter.. with like 1500ft range (way further than factory) for around 250. Works really well.. and it can be set for 15-20 minutes.. and it will also start with an engine light on too unlike the GM one... of you do get one.. tell the guys to Turn Tach off.. and set crank time to 4 seconds.. guaranteed to start 100% of the time.. the car has a built in anti starter grind

Bestbuy is overpriced. Go to a highly reccomended stereo shop in your area instead.

But what about the best but employees that will lose their job because you didn't buy their fancy overpriced gadgets. Lol

Well doubt that's happening anytime soon, there's plenty of suckers who don't mind overpaying to have something done at BB just because they're a huge franchise store.

The locals are usually much more knowledgable, communicate way better and prices are lower.

Locals ftw or do it yourself!

You guys have valid points. . It depends on who's installing too. I have years of experience myself and have developed a rep in my area.. lol people trust me over some of the local shops. I guess you get a lifetime warranty and were insured.. u pay a little more for that. :-P
