Adding a sub With out changing head unit

Now that my brother has sold his car, we have lots of stereo equipment.

I currently have the bose system in my 01 gtp.

There are 3 subs and 4 amps.

Since this equipment is collecting dust, I was thinking of putting it to some use.

One of the amps is a 4 channel amp for the interior speakers. The rest are mono. I was thinking of simply piggy backing the line to a sub. Obviously this will not give me allot of power, but it will give me something to do on my sunday

Running the amp for the subs would be a diffrent story. Im sure I would need to get a new head unit and run a a few lines to the trunk.

What do you think I should do? I really would rather not change my head unit, but if necessary I would consider it.

you do not have to change your headunit to add an amp. if i were you and you dont wanna change it you can buy a "loc" line output converter and that will tap into your rear speakers and give you your rca's then you just ahve to run a remote wire back there.

the best way to go about it though, is to purchase a new headunit with at least 1 rca output. that will give you better sound quality then the loc. its all about what you wanna do though. not everyone can afford a new HU

As of now I was a little bored and piggy backed the sub to the... um stock "sub" speaker. Theres a little bump but eh its free and looks cool

I talked to my bro who has all of the audio equipment. He says I should be able to get away with just using the speaker cable to the amp. He says its called "Hi-Pass" or something like that.

One other thing too. I doubt it, but is it possible to splice the power running into the stock amp (bose) and connect it to another amp? If not, how difficult is it to run the power cable form the battery to the trunk?

if your amp has a high level input then yes you can use speaker wire but it is not nearly the best way to do it.

and as far as the power wire, your stock amp most liekly has 10 guage wire, most amps now need 4 guage or better to run efficiently and get the current they need. even little 2-300 watts amps.

so i definately do not recommend splicing power wires

K. I have his left over power cable. Its very thick. Monster cable if I am not mistaken.

So you suggest I purchase a loc output converter?

Im a little confused on how the speaker cable will plug in but im sure ill figure it out. Will any brand do? I would like to pick it up locally rather than purchase it online. There are allot of audio stores out there.

There are allot of wires going on here. Kinda confusing.

you can use anyone. all it does is the wires that are comnig out of the loc will splice into your cars rear speaker wires, then you will just run an rca from the loc to your amp. its very easy and they should come with instructions
