I was on crutchfield looking for a head unit and I noticed all these "CD players" that didn't play Cd's. I knew that the IPOD connections was all the big craze but i didn't know that they made "digital media only" head units so i ordered the clarion all you do is pop in an SD card and that is that has anyone heard anything good or bad regarding the digital media only player??

Got it in today works great you can make play list and have tons of music without having 30 CD in your visor or flipping through the annoying CD case. I would have to say the best thing is that it comes with a microphone and you can blue tooth your phone to it. I did not know that. The display is simple but probably one of the best I have seen, there are lights in the curves on the unit (6 on each side I think) and they change colors randomly or you can set it to one color its great if anyone is looking for a digital only player i would definitely suggest this one and for 149 and it comes with the mounting kit wiring harness and antenna adapter for free you cannot beat it(it comes with the protruding mounting kit but if you just pop off the protruding part voila flush mount)

I was looking into the alpine iDA-X300 for myself and had some questions about them. Does the Sd card slide in on the front?

That is the only draw back I see with those, SD cards only really go upto what? 8 maybe 16gb in size. I like how my Pioneer 6000 is setup with the external USB input. I can attach one of my 16gb USB thumb drives to it, and it will accept upto 250gb, though I dont have that many MP3s, only around 75gb myself, but now I dont even bother carrying any CDs in my car.

The other draw back is if one of your friends happens to bring a long a CD for the ride in your car, you cant play it cause it doesn't accept CDs And its not like you are gonna be carrying your laptop around to make a quick rip of his CD to play it on your system.

I do like these new units as to the fact there are less moving parts in the unit to go down. So their up time is increased exceptionally. That is one upside to them no doubt

That Clarion does have a pretty neat facial setup on it no doubt.
